Why BrickLink® Designer Program sets are 18+

A BrickLink Designer Program set with the number 18 on the front of the box with a red square around it.

Ever notice the age rating on BrickLink® Designer Program (BDP) sets and wonder why it’s 18+?

BDP sets are designed by fans, not LEGO® designers. This means the design of BDP sets is different, often including unique approaches and intricate details that require a high level of skill and patience.

While BDP sets can feature building techniques that challenge even seasoned builders, you’ll still see the same level of quality you expect from sets designed by LEGO designers. All sets are manufactured by the LEGO Group and undergo a thorough design review to ensure stability and consistency.
