How do I update my SMART Brick?

Updating your SMART Brick can make it work better and do more things.

To update your SMART Brick, you’ll first need to connect it to your device using the LEGO® SMART Assist app. If you haven’t already, check out our step-by-step guide for how to do it here: How do I connect my SMART Brick to the LEGO® SMART Assist app for the first time?

Then follow these steps to update your SMART Brick:

    1. Make sure Bluetooth is enabled on your device and that you’re connected to the internet.
    2. Make sure the SMART Charger is plugged in
    3. Place the brick in the charging area. If the brick’s battery is low, you might have to let it charge for a bit before moving on to the next step. You’ll know it’s ready when it shows a green light when taken off the charger
    4. Open the LEGO SMART Assist app and go to the home screen
    5. Select the brick you want to update (you can update up to two bricks at a time)
    6. Tap the 'Update now' button
    7. You'll see a loading screen while the brick is updating, and a blue light will start flashing on the brick. It shouldn't take more than 5 minutes per brick.

Keep the app open while the update is being installed and keep your device close to the brick and charger. If you leave the room with your device in your pocket, it could break the connection.

If there's a problem or it's taking too long, double check that you’re connected to the internet and have Bluetooth enabled. You can also try to take the brick off the charger and close the app. Then put the brick back on the charger and try again.
