I have wanted a LEGO Pirate Ship for many years. I missed out on the older sets years ago and never really liked the POTC sets. When this set was released I wasn't sure I wanted it. I didn't really care about the shipwreck island theme. However, after looking at pics of the assembled ship, I thought I would take a chance and ordered it. Boy am I glad I did. I love this ship! Lots of detail inside and out. I am not a fan of the yellow min-figure heads, but since this is a nostalgia set, I understand why they were used. I also wish they had provided more cannons. A pirate ship with only 3 cannons?? Well, that won't do. So I purchased 5 additional cannon sets. I then rearranged the lower deck to accommodate the cannons. Now this thing looks like a pirate ship! I also purchased additional blue plates to make a nice ocean base. I used some of the island parts to make a small island with a treasure chest.Play Experience5.0Value for Money4.0Was this helpful?

Last year when I a saw the fan design I felt in love. After then I checked almost every day for some news when will Lego release it. To tell the truth when I saw the Lego design, I was a bit dissapointed. It was not the same, but after a minute of checking it I said to my girlfriend: watch this deatail, and watch that, and this could be a ship to!? WOW! Lego just tune it, and made the original desing better. (After inqure into the protoype I understand every litlle step that they made to get the final version and now I see the original design too. At 2nd of april my pack has arrived. My heart stopped for a moment. I felt like a 9 year old, and I just cannot stopped my tears. The bulding was fun, we laught a lot. Unfortunaty we do not have space to display it, but I pack it back to the original bags so it is like the orignal one. Can not wait to open it again. Nice work! Keep it up! I grew up with LEGO Pirates in the 80's and 90's, I still have the original Pirate Ship from 1989 and some of the small islands and extras. (See image of original box) As soon as this was announced I couldn't believe it, I tried not to buy it, but that nostalgia was too strong! Suffice to say I am so glad I did, this was the most fun set I have ever built, even more so than the Ghostbusters Firehouse and Car! The design is perfection, the set is huge and gorgeous to look at, some of the brick usage is genius and I love the attention to detail. Pictures of this do not do it justice, you need to see it and grasp the scope of it for yourself as its a huge set. Its quite a challenging build hence 16+, but if you have smaller kids this has some seriously amazing playability and the fact it turns into a ship is the icing on the cake. Honestly the most fun I have had in years, i took my time building this and it took me 3-4 days, averaging 2-3 hours a day. Well done LEGO, amazing details, fantastic use of bricks, bright, colourful and genuinely wonderful to build 10/10. I will keep this for years to come.Play Experience5.0Value for Money4.0Was this helpful?

Spent ever almost evenings building this set with the help of my young daughters. It was lots of fun and very exciting to see it all come together. The was finally assembling the three parts of the ship together. The wrecked island build is very well thought out and involved building the island as well as the three distinct sections of the ship. There are lots of nice little details like snails, coconuts and a pineapple. Lots of little design elements really add to the feel of the set. But let’s be honest, I didn’t buy it for the ship wreck, I bought it for the ship itself. Now to the ship. It’s a great build and I love how the designers made it very easy to ship between the wreck and the full ship. Surprisingly few pieces are needed to make the ship whole. The ship design has several nods to the original Black Seas Barracuda, including the crew but add some great female pirates to the delight of my daughters. While the original Barracuda place more of an emphasis on the cannons (the entire centre of the ship was an area for all 4 cannons and ammo), the new ship’s cannons are a bit of an afterthought and not as well integrated. They nearly get placed on the deck of the ship, instead of having a specific location. The new ship also only had three cannons, while the original had four. All the cannons are fully functional and shoot, which is great. The captain’s cabin on the new ship has much more detail but I wish the outside featured a little more gold bricks, especially around the windows. The details are still there but are lost to the black on black bricks. The inside the ship also has some great details but ultimate they are harder to access and will rarely see the light of day. In shipwreck formation the details are appreciated and easier to access though. They have redesigned the pirate flags as well to make the. More LEGO-like?! The skull is more bulbous. I prefer the original-style pirate flags. And whatever happened to the monkey from the original set?! Despite my few little bit-picks, this is an excellent set that I really enjoyed. My daughter has been having a lot of fun playing with my ships (new Barracuda, old Barracuda and Destiny’s Bounty from Ninjago (another fantastic ship set in its own right). Bring on the Pirates vs Ninjas battles!Play Experience4.0Value for Money5.0Was this helpful?
