The set went together easily in an afternoon. However I feel it needs a second engine car at the back to make it look finished. I was disappointed to see the Led headlights 88005 are an optional extra and found the bluetooth pairing sequence a little confusing initially. The LED flashing sequence and colours are not explained anywhere. Purple - ready to pair. White flashing - scanning channels for other unit. Solid colour - units paired.Play Experience4.0Value for Money4.0Was this helpful?

After “a few” years of not doing Lego sets , i am HIGHLY disappointed in the (new to me ) Lego trains . Before this set i have had the pleasure of using the 1999 9v system and hands down the older system works so much better !!! This train lacks power for anything over 4 cars long, do you have an incline in your track set up ? Don’t try to use this train , it won’t make it up. unless you spend another $50 + for better equipment. My 9 v Lego train i can run 9 cars with out any issues, and up a hill is no issues. (no modifications) If you get this set .... better have LOTS... i mean LOTS of AAA batteries, even at only building what comes with the box , battery life is 2 maybe .... i mean maybe 3 hours. Why Lego changed to regular batteries i will NEVER understand.Play Experience2.0Value for Money1.0Was this helpful?

I bought this set as soon as it came out as the controls had changed and I was curious to see what Lego had developed. Building the train was quite straight forward but I soon realised no IR unit, just the battery box. I had downloaded the "Power up" app and this was sitting on my phone. Well what fun i had along with my 26 year old son when we placed the batteries in the box and had the train running around the track controlled by the cellphone. i now have to save up to buy the cargo train and I think when they come up for sale in the Lego Shop, i will be buying the motor and battery box to convert my other trains to this system. Well done Lego a brilliant step forward!Play Experience5.0Value for Money5.0Was this helpful?

Rediscovering Lego 38 years after receiving my very own first Lego set must be the best thing about parenting. So many new builds to explore! We surprised our 7-year old son with the Lego City Train set for his birthday and he's over the moon with it. The downside for parents? After paying quite a bit of money for this expensive set, you will consume the same amount in batteries over the next month: the hub and remote take 10 (!) AAA batteries together. Would be a good idea (in this time and age) to use rechargeable lithium batteries in Lego products that can be charged by USB cable (like you charge a phone / tablet)...Play Experience5.0Value for Money4.0Was this helpful?
