Being an avid lover of all things Rome, and Roman history, this was a day one purchase for me. From opening up the box to placing the final piece, this felt like an epic journey the likes of which I’ve never had before with any other set. The base is amazingly supportive with plenty of Easter eggs embedded into it, with colours representing the Colosseums history and geology. As you start to build the walls of the structure itself, you soon get into that repetition that everyone talks about, but you also understand that it’s that same repetitiveness that creates the Colosseums amazing look! (Spare a thought for what the slaves went through). I loved the way this set comes together in sections rather than being built from the ground up, because when you finally join the final section together and complete the oval shaped wonder, it really leaves you in awe of what the designer has accomplished here! For the full experience, I highly recommend finding a good documentary on the Colosseum, and learning about its creation and history, as it will undoubtably give you a greater experience and satisfaction while building this set. I personally absolutely loved building this set, and for me, it was worth every penny! Gratias maximis tibi ago!

This is an amazing set!! We now have a set that currently beats the 2017 UCS Millenium Falcon piece count. Extremely beautiful, and even though I'm still on the base, I'm excited to finally finish. If you're a history buff, or enjoyed Assassin's Creed Brotherhood, then consider buying this set. It is well worth the money spent. To those who are thinking about writing a negative review solely because you want to complain about the set and have yet to buy it, go complain on Reddit or another lego forum. Even though you are fully entitled to your opinion, you are not entitled to tell lego what to do, nor are you in control of other people's money. Funny thing is that the same people were complaining about the Taj Mahal and UCS Millenium Falcon because it was only one single color, but for whatever reason those people still chose to buy those sets.

I have heard so many complaints about this set from people (like the reviewer before me) who haven't even bought it. "It's too monochrome! It's too repetitive!" Well, it's a recreation of an actual building. If it's monochrome and repetitive, then blame the Romans. But hang on... typical of Lego, when there's a set that's fairly monochrome (I'm looking at you, every major Star Wars set), they hide all kinds of fun colours inside the structure. That's also true for this set, which conceals colourful pieces in the base - including some rare Bright Green and Flesh-coloured bricks and plates. The build itself is a lot sturdier than I expected (I'm only 1/3 way through at this point) and I've already picked up some good building techniques, especially in the SNOT edges around the base. As for the "too many tan bricks" thing --- if you like to use your sets to disassemble later and build your own things with, then you know there is no such thing as "too many tan bricks" - especially those arches and masonry pieces. You get LOTS of those in this set, for a lot cheaper than buying them on pick-a-brick. As I said, I'm only about 1/3 of the way through the build at this point, but it's been really enjoyable so far. Yes, there will be some repetition later, but the finished product looks fantastic (there was a display in the store). Definitely display-worthy. Some sets are worth getting because of how much fun they are to build (Grand Piano was astonishingly fun to build) and others are a bit of a slog to construct, but the end result is spectacular. I'd put the Colosseum in that category, along with the Taj Mahal. So far, the Colosseum has been a lot more fun to build than the Taj!

I have soon finished this set over the course of 3 days and I must say I did not felt it to be as repetitive as I feared before I started. I feel like it’s well worth it’s money and the build overall feels rewarding and fun! Box 1 was the foundation and that felt very fun since you did big progress fast. In box two there where somewhere around 7 segments x 2 that where exactly the same and that’s the highest number in the whole set. Since I noticed this I opened several bags at once and built them side by side and that helped to lower the feeling of building the same thing over and over again. In box 3 you start with the higher segments and here the foundations might be only 2 different types but there is difference higher up so I decided I build them separately. Every segment took 15-20 min so it’s enough time to get rid of the feeling that your doing the same thing over and over again that you could get from something that takes only a couple of minutes. A side note that in box 3, the last bags where missing (nr29) found them both in box 4 instead, with the bigger one broken and parts spread out. Although no part where missing so I could continue the build, but if it’s intended for the bag to be in box 4 you have no info about it anywhere. Box 4 so far is the last high segments and then some threes, cars and top parts for all of the lower segments. Couple of more hours and it’s done :)
