    Guide to Co-Gaming for Parents

The Gaming Together Experiment for Parents – Home Edition

Many parents and caregivers don’t feel confident stepping into their children’s gaming world. The good news: getting there is easier than you might think.

The LEGO® Gaming Together experiment is a great place to start. Here, we’ve outlined three simple challenges to help you explore your child’s gaming world and establish a good routine for talking about it more often.

    What:

A home experiment for parents and children ages 9-12 with three easy challenges.

    Time needed:

Doing all three challenges takes 1-2 hours over a week. But the real goal is to turn gaming and talking about it into a shared routine.

    What you’ll gain:

Understanding of your child’s gaming world.

    Strong bonds and open conversations.

    Confidence to support your child.

Try the LEGO® Gaming Together experiment

    Challenge #1:
Join your child in their gaming world

Your first challenge is easy: Sit down for a few minutes while your child games and ask curious questions about it, like “Wow – what just happened?” or “How did you just do that?!”

    Not sure what to play?

Try LEGO® Voyagers or LEGO Party.

    Why:
It’s a simple but big step. You’ve already stepped into your child’s gaming world and showed that you want to explore it with curiosity.

    Time needed:
    10-20 minutes

    Challenge #2:
    Switch roles with your child

For your second challenge, you’re going to play one of your child’s favorite games – under their guidance.
See what happens and remember to ask your child for tips.
    Why:
As parents, we’re often expected to have all the answers. By trying something new – and maybe even struggling with it – you show your child it’s okay to ask for help and guidance.
    Time needed:
    20-40 minutes

    Challenge #3:
    Quiz time!

This last gaming challenge comes with a small twist. You’re not answering for yourself, but on behalf of your child. Have your child read the questions below and answer them as you think they would.

    Why:

Discover your child’s gaming preferences in a playful way. Some answers might surprise you!

    Time needed:

    20-40 minutes

    Quiz questions:

    • Would you rather: Build and create or Compete and win?
    • Would you rather: Ace the game or Have fun with friends?
    • Would you rather: Game on your own or Game with family?
    • Would you rather: Explain gaming or Show gaming?
    • Would you rather: Decide yourself when to take a break or Be reminded when to take a break?
    • Would you rather: Have more time for digital gaming or Do other things along gaming?
    • Would you rather: Decide on gaming rules together or Follow set rules?
