Make Playtime a Game for You Too With LEGO® DUPLO® Mini Challenges

Got a mini-me that’s a bundle of energy? Then you’ll know how quickly playtime can sometimes turn messy. Here at the LEGO Group, we embrace the chaos as an opportunity for adults to have fun too. 

So, next time your little whirlwind happily smashes their LEGO® DUPLO® creation, why not turn this little act of destruction into a fun game that’ll amuse you while they play?

Sounds great, right? Here are a few of our favorite mini games to get you started…

Tumbling towers

Picture the scene: you’ve helped your toddler build the tallest, most awesomely colorful LEGO DUPLO tower on the block, and they give you a cheeky grin before ploughing their fist (or feet) into it.

But here’s where we turn the demolition into a game. Next time your little one is building up-up-up, why not make your predictions in your head: how long will it take before the tower comes crashing down-down-down? Or how many bricks will tumble? You could even turn it into a friendly competition with other family members of friends… whoever guesses closest wins.

Brick grab

Their tumbling LEGO DUPLO tower knocked over? Typical! But why not turn its fall into a fun challenge that’s unpredictable with a bit of healthy competition thrown in! Everyone must race and see who can collect the bricks the quickest. You could break it down further and give each person a particular color of brick to collect. The fastest gets to be the one to knock the next tower over. 

It’s a great game if you’ve got more than one little one in your care, too, as both children and adults can get involved. Time to get everyone’s adrenaline pumping!

Pattern predictor

Even when toddlers are playing nicely, they like to keep us on our toes by never letting us know their next move… true ninja! This game harnesses beautiful unpredictability by asking you to guess what color brick your mini-me will pick up next and turning it into a competition. Will they choose the same color, shape or size – or will they go completely rogue? Take note and see if you can predict the pattern!

Copycat clues

LEGO DUPLO creation in bits? Pick up the pieces and create something new… but remember, you must listen carefully and follow the copycat clues! Build something in secret, without your toddler seeing. Using just clues, they have to try and copy it but can only do it using the guiding clues from you, “blue brick, then purple brick”, “it’s got five bricks”. Creations finished? Reveal and share then switch roles.
