What is LEGO® Super Mario™?

For the first time ever, Super Mario™ is being brought to life in the physical LEGO® world! LEGO® Super Mario™ is a product line that will let kids experience the playful world of Super Mario in an entirely new way in the physical world. The experience features an interactive LEGO® Mario™ figure that collects coins in real-life game levels that have been created with LEGO bricks. It’s all about building and rebuilding – creating unique courses and seeing how many coins you can get in 60 seconds. To unlock the universe of LEGO Super Mario, fans will need one of the LEGO Super Mario Starter Courses, as these are the only sets that include an interactive figure, the Start Pipe and Goal Pole – which are all needed to play. While it is based on a traditional LEGO brick product, the LEGO Super Mario play experience is unique in that kids can freely build the world of Super Mario, and their LEGO Super Mario interactive figures can then interact in fun ways in the world they created! With LEGO Super Mario products including modular builds, fans are fully in charge of creating exactly the course they want to see their interactive figure come to life in. Whether that’s using one of the LEGO Super Mario Starter Courses, or if it’s by adding Expansion Sets that each unlock even more exciting challenges and characters. The interactive play with the LEGO Super Mario characters is the most unique characteristic of the LEGO Super Mario product line. Beyond the LEGO Super Mario Starter Courses, this play theme also consists of Expansion Sets, Power-Up Packs allowing the interactive characters to change suits and skills, as well as enemy characters that are available in blind bags.

Where can I find building instructions for LEGO® Super Mario™ sets?

The building instructions for LEGO® Super Mario™ sets are available within the LEGO Super Mario companion app. There are lots of great features in the digital building instructions to make it fun and easy to get started with your set. The instructions themselves are available in 3D to make it easy to pick the right bricks as well as zoom in on and rotate your set. Plus, the app includes video tutorials that are packed with tips and tricks for creative ways to build and play. When we were designing the sets, we discovered that children found the digital instructions and video tutorials super helpful. Keeping everything within the app also helps young builders understand how to connect LEGO® Mario™ to their device and to play out adventures with their creations. If you still prefer to build the sets without using the app, you can download the building instructions from LEGO.com. Visit the Building Instructions section of the Customer Service website and search using the set number to download them. Keep in mind that the free companion app is required to keep the software of the LEGO Mario figure up to date. In addition, the app features fun videos which teach you how to play with LEGO Mario and a great inspiration section – don’t miss out on these!

How much does it cost?

The Starter Courses (71360, 71387 and 71403), which respectively either include the LEGO® Luigi™, LEGO® Mario™ or LEGO® Peach™ figures, are the beginning of your LEGO® Super Mario™ journey and are priced differently according to which region you are in. Beyond that, we have a wide range of innovative and interactive Expansion Sets, Power-Up Packs and Character Packs which are all priced at various levels. LEGO® Super Mario™ is for kids age 6+ and all fans of Super Mario and LEGO play.

Which types of sets and products will be available?

The LEGO® Super Mario™ universe offers a variety of experiences and challenges. The Starter Course is the first set you need to buy to complete any challenge. Beyond that, kids can let their imaginations go wild by building their own unique LEGO Super Mario levels by using the various Expansion Sets and characters. Special Power-Up Packs are also available which offer new suits for LEGO® Mario™ to wear, making him react in different ways and allowing you to further customize your levels. In 2021, we introduced a LEGO® Luigi™ figure and new adventures to your LEGO Super Mario universe. And now, in August 2022, a third interactive figure will join the universe, with the arrival of LEGO® Peach™!

Can fans use the Expansion Sets without the Starter Course?

Fans can of course build the Expansion Sets as any other LEGO® product, but in order to bring the game to life, fans will need one of the interactive figures, the Start Pipe and Goal Pole, which only come with the LEGO® Super Mario™ Starter Courses.

Does it come with an accompanying app?

Yes, there is a free LEGO® Super Mario™ app, created and published by the LEGO Group, which is a supporting feature to further enhance the physical play experience. The app is not needed during playtime, but it keeps track of scores to encourage continuous rebuilding, and it also provides digital building instructions with zoom and rotate viewing tools to make building easier, suggests other creative ways to build and play, and is a safe forum to share ideas with friends.

How do you charge the LEGO® Super Mario™ characters?

The LEGO® Mario™, LEGO® Luigi™ and (from August 2022 onwards) LEGO® Peach™ interactive figures are powered by 2 x AAA batteries (not included in the product), delivering a highly interactive experience where players get instant feedback and rewards for creativity.

Looking for some tips and tricks for LEGO® Super Mario™ gameplay?

Tips for funny LEGO® Mario™ reactions - Try putting LEGO® Mario™ on his back, and watch him fall asleep - Try shaking LEGO Mario rigorously and watch him get dizzy! - LEGO Mario does not like fire, but once he is at the final stage of getting hurt on fire (when crosses appear in his eyes), try quickly taking him to the water and watch his reaction Tips for getting more coins Try using the platforms not just as a way to get from A to B, but go back and forth on them or rotate LEGO® Mario™ both ways to collect double coins. - Walking on the 3 safe colors, green, yellow and blue, yields 4 times as many coins as walking on other surfaces Use the ? Block multiple times, to get: 15 seconds additional level time 5 coins reward 10 coins reward Super Star Power, which allows you to instantly defeat big enemies and get double coins! Mushroom Power-Up, which acts as a shield for no-coin state (when you fall off a platform, for example) Use the ? Block multiple times, to get: - 15 seconds additional level time - 5 coins reward - 10 coins reward - Super Star Power, which allows you to instantly defeat big enemies and get double coins! - Mushroom Power-Up, which acts as a shield for no-coin state (when you fall off a platform for example) Once you have collected a reward or bonus from the ? Block in level play, it gets replaced by a single coin, so after you have collected a few items it makes less sense to keep spending time here. - LEGO Mario has a number of finish bonuses. Finish bonuses can be stacked! - Using up most of your level time results in various coin rewards, depending on how close you get to the last second - Bringing digital items to the finish not used up, rewards a bonus - Doing a flip onto the finish results in a finish bonus Some blocks in the Expansion Sets give additional ways of collecting coins. The P Switch, for example, will shower you with coins, where any walk, jump or flip you do results in lots of coins! Also try tapping the 1, 2, 3 Blocks in the correct order. More hidden play features will be developed and revealed in the future, so stay tuned!
