Our sustainability impact areas

At the LEGO Group, we’re playing our part in building a sustainable future and creating a better world for children to inherit.

Our sustainability strategy covers the impact areas: children, environment and people.

Children

We have a vision to become a global force for Learning through Play. To deliver against this vision, we make sure that everything we do is driven by our desire to put children first. We support and enhance children’s rights and empower them to become lifelong learners through play.

Environment

We are working to minimize the environmental impact of our operations, moving to design products and packaging in a more circular way and from more sustainable materials.

People

We want to build equitable, inclusive and responsible workplaces
– ours and our suppliers.

We want to use our own actions to become a driving force to make a positive impact on diversity and inclusion through on-going collaborations with our colleagues, customers, communities, fans, suppliers and partners.

Governance

We recognize the taxes we pay and the jobs we create are important parts of our contribution to the societies in which we operate. Taxation plays a key role in helping countries finance their policies to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The UN SDGs

We are committed to making a positive impact for children, and therefore we are particularly inspired by SDG 4, ‘Quality Education’ and SDG 12, ‘Responsible Consumption and Production’. This is where we see our contribution making the greatest impact on the lives of children and the planet.
  • Sustainable Development Goal 4

    Inclusive and equitable quality education

We advocate for the transformative power of play to be adopted in education and early childhood development around the world. The LEGO Foundation has a 25 percent ownership in the LEGO Group, which means that 25 percent of the LEGO Group’s profit is contributing to help children have access to Learning through Play.
  • Sustainable Development Goal 12

    Responsible consumption and production

We believe we have a responsibility to continue to reduce the environmental impact of our operations. We have an ambition to make our core products from more sustainable materials and remove all single-use plastic from our packaging, and to reduce the carbon footprint of bringing a LEGO® product to market and limit our use of resources.
