Value for Money
We ended up using the Super Mario App to put the Chain Chomp Jungle Set together, which made it so easy and quick. It only took about twenty minutes to build. It was such a fun little project for my son and husband to do together. We can't wait to be able to get and build and complete the entire set. This set is recommended for children older than my son, who is four, but he did fantastic along with the supervision of my husband.
There is the yellow and orange creature (Bramball) that I didn't encounter when I was younger, but I do recognize the Chain Chomp! This famous dog-prison ball that sleeps until you get too close and who pulls its chain while barking! How many times have I jumped when that happened!? Every single time!
The funny thing is that my 3 year old son instantly liked the Chain Chomp, for him it's a dog with a leash (not a chain) in the Super Mario universe! He absolutely wanted to put its white brick teeth on it. He couldn't wait to play with it and he found the waiting time long (it took me 50 minutes to build the 160 pieces).
As for the bricks, I really liked the soft thorny vine; it was the first time I'd ever come across it. As with many Super Mario sets, what I appreciate the most is the inventiveness that allows us to play with the constructed set. The principle of the two superimposed seesaws works perfectly. We all know that Chain Chomp is a ball that should be round, but because it isn't, it reveals its barcode as soon as you manage to flip it over.
There's also something else that I really liked about Chain Chomp, which is a reflection of the video game : Super Mario loses a life as soon as the chained Chomp closes its jaw on him, this principle has also become LEGO with the red color of its tongue! I tip my hat to the design and R&D team because without adding anything, the color red is the softened equivalent of losing a life.
If I had to add a single brick, it would be on top of the Chain Chomp, it would be smooth. This is also the opinion of my son who asked me why the holes on the top.
I got these for my son to go along with his now ever growing and expanding Mario Lego set and both he and I love them. Lego has hit a home run with the Mario Legos in general. My son is 4 but with the way they are now doing their instructions he's able to build sets designed for 8+ with little to no assistance due to the ease they created. It makes him feel great and keeps him busy for hours. Then once its completed the way he engages with the Mario sets keeps him playing for hours since its actually interactive and they track what sets you have and new ways to add them all together.
This set did not come with instructions. You have to download an application to get these. While I do support going paperless whenever we can, I did not like this aspect. This models instructions were not on the apps list at the time I looked, maybe this has changed since then. I like Lego, always have, but I can't stress enough how irritated I was about having to download something just to put some legos together. It was annoying and came off as gimmicky to be quite frank. Still love you, Lego, but please change that.
