I LOVE this set! I pre ordered it and got it the 2nd of August, and built it right away. I had a little trouble with the Bluetooth connection at first. He would freeze up whenever I tried to connect him. But it can be fixed by turning off Bluetooth on the device and restart it five seconds later. (Thanks lego for the troubleshooting section!)
The teamwork aspect is really fun, as you can each gain coins for doing things in sync, like walking, jumping, or stomping enemies. You can compete with each other when connected to a device. After the flag pole, it counts your coins separately, so you can see the coins for each figure. As for the set itself, I really enjoyed it. The build was relatively simple, as expected (not a complaint though), and the see-saw thing is fine, but the way It is positioned, when you knock over boom boom on the tower, the gear is either too close or too far away. And the tower will often fall down when used like this. The flying gear is similar to the cloud from the Mario starter set, with a few differences. First, the top rotates like a gear, and will give you coins when you rotate it. Second, it is very much like the propeller suit, because you can put Luigi on it and make it fly, just like the suit, and glide back down and give you coins (this is not shown on the demos in the app). I love the pink yoshi and how they made it like you can play with him. Yoshi will eat anything that is one life, and give you three coins for each enemy instead of one. Yoshi will last until you eat three enemies (or get hurt like lava or boo, etc.) and then the bar code is just a little “meet n greet” like the yoshi from Mario’s house.
As for the Luigi figure, he has the same interactions as Mario, but with a different voice. Looking at the pictures, I wondered about the little cheek outlines on him and didn’t think it looked great, but in person it is a lot more subtle and it looks fine. He can wear the same suits as Mario, but propeller, cat, builder, and fire suits don’t look good on him since they are red and have the M on the hat. I’m hoping lego will soon release special green variations of these suits. The tanooki and penguin suits look great on him, since they are generic and don’t have any M’s on them. I imagine the new bee and frog suits are the same. Over all a wonderful set and I am VERY happy with my purchase! I definitely recommend this!
