How to Build an Advanced LEGO® Harry Potter™ Display with Hagrid’s Hut

Hagrid’s Hut gets a magical upgrade with its own spellbinding LEGO® scene

It’s time to take your LEGO® Harry Potter™ builds to the next level. Discover how one fan added a Prisoner of Azkaban™ twist to a Wizarding World favorite…

There’s nothing better than settling into a cozy evening and unwinding with a rewarding LEGO build. But when you finish your project, how are you going to display it? Why not extend your set (and the fun) by building a detailed scene, complete with your own creative additions and favorite movie details of Harry Potter and his pals? A display-worthy set indeed…

Need a little help with your creative spark? Look no further than LEGO fan and top-tier model maker Christina. Working with Hagrid’s Hut: An Unexpected Visit (76428), she gives us the low-down on the set’s magical upgrade and how easy it is to find space for display.

    Minimal space, maximum magic

Christina starts by building Hagrid’s Hut and choosing a small square base for her scene. “I like to turn my LEGO sets into small dioramas with a limited area as they are easy to display on a shelf or anywhere in my home,” she explains. “A squared black frame is an easy way to surround the diorama and capture a vibe in a limited space.”

    A pop of color

Christina measured where the Hut should sit and added layers of green bricks and slopes to start building out the scene. She says, “To make it look like the Hut is placed on uneven ground, I added more bricks to a part of the base. The Hut is primarily made of grey bricks, so I added tiles that can easily be removed and made the ground a bright and colorful green.” We love the contrasting colors too, Christina!

    Magical touches

“The set comes with a few outdoor decorations of mushrooms and leaves, and two small side pieces with pumpkins and mushrooms,” Christina says. Using this as inspiration, Christina built out a fall-inspired scene complete with a scarecrow and pumpkin patch – a magical nod to The Prisoner of Azkaban™ movie.

    Christina’s thoughts…

Once the scene came together, Christina told us, “The small diorama captured the vibe of the area around Hagrid’s Hut, covered with mushrooms, pumpkins and a scarecrow.” She adds, “The Hut is easy to remove and isn’t attached to the base as I added tiles under it, so it’s possible to just have the Hut on display instead of with the base.” Handy space-saving tip!
