My SMART Brick isn’t responding to movements or SMART Tags

If your SMART Brick isn't making sounds or showing lights when you play with it or when you combine it with SMART Minifigures and SMART Tags, there are a few things you can try:

    • The brick could be asleep. Give it a good shake and it should wake right up and be ready for action. If you haven’t used it for a long time (more than 13 hours), put it on the charger and it will wake up when you take it off again.
    • If you haven’t already, try putting a SMART Tag or SMART Minifigure on the brick and see if it starts making sounds. If it does, it should be ready for play.
    • The brick might need to be updated. Sometimes when we release new sets, we include new features for the brick with new tags and minifigures that it needs to be updated to work with. Check our step-by-step guide on updating your brick here: How do I update my SMART Brick?
    • The brick could be out of power. Put it on the charger (in the recessed part of it) with the studs facing up and make sure the charger is plugged in. You’ll see a white light flash on the brick for a few seconds to tell you it’s charging correctly. To check what the charge level is, take the brick off the charger and see what colour light it turns on.
      • A green light and a bright chirping sound means it’s fully charged.
      • A yellow light and a lower-pitched sound means there’s still a bit of play time left.
      • Orange or red and a power-down sound tells you it’s running low and needs to charge for about 2.5 hours.
    • Make sure the brick is placed correctly on the charger with the studs facing up. If it’s placed outside the recessed charging area or on its side, the brick won’t charge correctly.
    • If the brick isn’t showing any lights when you take it off the charger, try changing the charger’s USB-C cable and wall adapter before trying again.
    • If the brick flashes a red light, it might be too hot. Take it off the charger and let it cool down for a while.
    • If the brick flashes an orange light three times when you put it on the charger, the battery is completely dead and needs to charge a little longer before it will do anything.
    • The brick doesn’t work well if it’s super close to the charger and the charger is plugged in. Put the charger at least 1 meter away and the brick should work just fine.

If none of this works, there may be a problem with the brick. Give us a call or drop us a line and we'll do our best to help you.
