  • While there are no sharp edges on LEGO DUPLO bricks, we strongly advise against children putting LEGO DUPLO pieces in their mouth – it can be painful for a teething toddler’s vulnerable gums and harmful to older children’s teeth.

But we know tasting and licking things can be irresistible for your little one. In the production of our DUPLO bricks, we only use raw materials where we’re in complete control of the chemical composition. We monitor the latest research and use published scientific data to ensure that our materials are safe. We also continuously test our materials to ensure that our toys don’t expose children to any harmful substances. Every element we produce meets a long list of safety and quality rules.

Although elastic parts are quite rare in our sets, we do use some white, red, and blue silicone parts – and our vehicles have soft tires. These consist of SBS or SEBS, which are materials safely used in many consumer products.

  • No. LEGO DUPLO toddler toys are tested by independent laboratories and always meet or exceed all toy safety laws in the 140 countries where they are sold. These define standards for age grading, use and inclusion of small parts, what materials can and can’t be used, not having sharp edges or points, and much more.

The smaller LEGO System bricks and elements are NOT safe for children under the age of 4. If you have older children who like to play with the smaller bricks, make sure you always keep these bricks out of your toddler’s reach!

  • The unique interior design of the LEGO DUPLO bricks is what gives them their strong clutch power – and consequently a stable build and fun play experience. LEGO DUPLO bricks can actually be built together more than 1,000 times and still have the same clutch power! If your child combines LEGO bricks with other building toys, their build may fall apart, which is not fun for anyone… So we don’t recommend mixing and matching.

  • LEGO DUPLO sets are designed to be intuitive and easy for your little one to create whatever they want to. You can find inspiration on the packaging and help them find the elements to start building a barn, a train station, or numbered or decorated bricks. But mostly, all you need to do is encourage your child to try out their wildest ideas! If you need inspiration, you can find building instructions on the product page or tips, videos, and tutorials here

  • As a guiding rule, LEGO DUPLO sets are suitable for children between ages 1½ and 5. We know, a lot happens over the course of those years, and each child develops skills and interests at their own pace. If you look for the age markings on a product, it can help you find a set that is sure to give your little one a good play experience. And just because the age markings stop at 5, anyone is still welcome to play and build with DUPLO for as long as they want!
  • The smallest LEGO DUPLO brick (2x2 studs) is approximately 3.2mm x 3.2 mm wide and 3.4 mm tall. They are called DUPLO because the dimensions are double the size of LEGO System bricks, and they are 100% compatible!
  • We produce LEGO DUPLO bricks, decorations, and packaging in Denmark, Hungary, Mexico, and China. Regardless of where your set was produced, the raw materials live up to the same strict regulations and environmental demands. All LEGO toys are tested by independent laboratories and meet or exceed all toy safety laws in all the countries where they are sold.
  • The current materials we use have been carefully chosen to make sure we can provide the best play experience for children and, most importantly, high-quality and safe toys. Most LEGO DUPLO pieces are made from a high-quality plastic called ABS. It provides the unique connective grip, high gloss, and the color stability our LEGO bricks are known for. It meets a long list of safety, durability, and quality rules and we’ve been using it ever since 1963! ABS plastic is also commonly used to make plastic telephones, computers, and car interiors.

In 2018, however, we were very proud to launch the first LEGO set made by plant-based plastic, and more will follow in the years to come!

  • We are committed to using plastic resources responsibly, so future generations can inherit a healthy planet. We are constantly in pursuit of more sustainable solutions to our raw materials consumption and our packaging. We also work towards improving our waste management and eliminating waste in our production:

    • In 2018, we launched the first LEGO product made from entirely plant-based plastic, and we commit to finding sustainable alternatives to our current oil-based raw materials by 2030.
    • All LEGO products come in sustainable packaging that is certified by the Forest Stewardship Council™ (FSC™).
    • We want to improve our waste management and we aim for zero waste in our production.
    • In 2018, two years ahead of schedule, the LEGO Group achieved its 2020 goal to balance 100% of its energy use with energy from renewable sources.

  • If your child’s LEGO DUPLO bricks have taken a detour to the sandbox, you can hand-wash them in lukewarm water, 40 degrees (Celcius), with a mild detergent. Rinse with clean water, pat the surface dry, and leave them to air dry inside.
