    Building the engine

The Porsche is a complex set, with many different parts and gears that all need to be built exactly right for the car to function properly. An important thing to look out for is the construction of the engine. If the yellow pistons on page 204-205, steps 291-294 aren’t in the right position they won’t be able to move freely, which affects the functionality of the gearbox. Make sure the pistons are set correctly with one up and two down as shown in the instructions.

Since the set is so complex, make sure you follow the instructions carefully!

    Clutch power of part 6122217

While building, you may notice that part 6122217 has no clutch power. That’s normal. The ‘tube’ is designed to fit loosely over axles, not to grip tightly onto them.

    Extra sticker

On page 132 of the instructions, in step 175, you’ll need to apply a sticker to the Porsche’s dashboard screen. You can choose one of two stickers here. Sticker 3A shows the iconic Porsche 911 silhouette and logo. It’s the image you see when you start up the real car. Sticker 3B reflects what you’d see when driving with GPS navigation. The route shown is Porsche’s test track in Weissach, Germany, where the 911 was developed.

You can use either one of these stickers here. The one you don’t choose will be an extra, it isn’t needed elsewhere in the set.

    Gearbox

Eagle-eyed fans might notice something about the Porsche’s gearbox: it doesn’t run sequentially. This was a deliberate decision made by our designers. They discovered that having the gears in the correct order meant the set didn’t work very well. Too many gears were engaged at the same time and due to this, the car wasn’t running smoothly. The gears were ordered differently to improve this.

If you’d prefer to have the gears in sequential order, you can switch around steps 267 and 269 while building.
