    All about LEGO® DUPLO® Trains

Explore the world of LEGO® DUPLO® trains with our helpful tips and troubleshooting!

How to get started with the LEGO DUPLO Connected Train hub

    1. Using a screwdriver, release the battery lid.
    2. Insert the batteries following the illustration in the building instructions. If the front light flashes orange, it could mean the batteries are low or the train is overloaded.
    3. Turn the train on by pressing the green button located underneath the train. A short sound and flashing white front light mean the activation was successful. To turn the train off, press the green button.
    4. To make the train go, make sure the train is turned on and push it in the desired direction. To stop the train, hold it by hand.To play with the action bricks, make sure the train is on and the action bricks are placed on the LEGO DUPLO tracks. The action bricks can only be placed on the flat, curved and straight tracks, not the bridge. The train can detect the action brick going both forwards and backwards.

When the batteries in the hub are low, the train might not be able to both make sounds and move. If it’s driving along in silence, a fresh set of batteries might get the horns working again. New alkaline batteries from the same brand are recommended for the best play experience. Mixing different brands, using a combination of old and new ones, or using rechargeable batteries isn’t recommended.

    Troubleshooting steps

    1. Add new alkaline batteries. Mixing different brands, using a combination of old and new, or using rechargeable batteries isn’t recommended.
    2. Check whether the batteries are connecting well with the metal contacts in the battery compartment. They should be clean and fit tightly around the batteries.
    3. Put the train on the tracks and press the start button. If the train makes a starting sound, blows its horn and starts running, it’s working fine. If the train only runs for a little bit, the front wheels may be blocked. Try cleaning out any dirt from the front wheels.

To make our DUPLO train as safe as possible for our youngest builders, it’s completely sealed and can’t be opened up for repair. If the steps above don’t solve the problem, please get in touch with us and we’ll help you find a solution.

    The LEGO DUPLO Train app

The DUPLO Train app is a great way to enhance the physical play experience of DUPLO trains with plenty of fun and engaging activities. Trains that work with this app include 10427 LEGO DUPLO Interactive Adventure Train, 10428 LEGO DUPLO Big Interactive Community Train, 10875 LEGO DUPLO Cargo Train and 10874 LEGO DUPLO Steam Train. Find download links and system requirements on our device guide

The following permissions are required for the app to work properly:
    • Access Photos, Media and Files is required to install art assets and sounds. It’s not used to access files or photos stored on your device.

    • For Android devices, location permission is required to connect to the DUPLO Train toy via Bluetooth. It’s not used to track your location.

The LEGO Group is committed to your child’s privacy and online safety. The DUPLO Train app doesn’t track your location or collect any information that could identify your child.

    DUPLO Train Track Compatibility

DUPLO train tracks haven’t changed much over the years, so older tracks are fully compatible with the current ones. Our newer tracks are grey, and our older tracks are black.

While the different tracks can be used together, we do recommend alternating between them since the older, black tracks have less grip. If you’re building a track with a bridge, we’d suggest using newer rails around the slope.

Number trains and other train play sets

Some of our DUPLO play sets feature trains that aren’t motorized, like our Number Train set. These trains and their cars don’t fit on the tracks for the electric DUPLO trains. You can play with the carriages and locomotives together, but the wheels of these trains won’t fit on the tracks.

We try to make all DUPLO sets compatible with each other, but sometimes that isn’t possible, especially as different sets have different price points to make our products available for as many children as possible.
