In-App Remote Control and using PS4™ DUALSHOCK® Controllers and XBOX 1 Controllers

The previous version of MINDSTORMS® robotics, the EV3, required a separate app to control the robot remotely. With the Robot Inventor, there’s no separate remote control app—everything you need for the Robot Inventor can be found in the Robot Inventor app, including the remote control functionality! Certain activities allow you to remote control your MINDSTORMS robot. These activities will have both an option for a virtual remote in the MINDSTORMS application and an option for a PS4 or XBOX remote controller to be used.

The virtual remote can be found by pressing the game controller icon on the right side of the coding canvas. Once you bring up the blank remote control, you can click on the ‘+’ to add a button, joystick, slider, and more.

PS4 DUALSHOCK controller or Xbox1 controller

If you have a PS4 DUALSHOCK controller or an Xbox 1 controller, you can use it to control your robot! It can be connected to your device via Bluetooth and can work with your robot right away. To learn how to get started, just open up the M.V.P. activity in the Robot Inventor App. You can find a tutorial for both controllers under the Further Activities section.

If you want to use either controller to control your own custom creation, you can add the coding blocks you need from the extensions list found in the bottom of the coding block section.
