With the help of our passionate LEGO® employees, we aim to leverage the transformational power of learning through play to inspire and develop children. Our local community engagement program currently operates in 31 countries, and we are working hard to expand it even further. The program relies on our employees in each country volunteering to help create projects to inspire children. These projects meet local needs, provide opportunities to local children, and leverage the skills and interests of local employees to have the greatest impact on the lives of children.
Build the Change
Gives children an opportunity to express their creative solutions to making the world a better place by building their ideas with LEGO bricks. The focus is the environment, the future of learning and child-friendly cities.
LEGO® Braille Bricks in China
We have made significant progress in China with our LEGO® Braille Bricks, a play-based methodology that teaches braille to children who are blind or have visual impairment. We have reached hundreds of special educations schools with tailored trainings, Braille Bricks sets, and toolkits across 30 provincial administrative districts - and in the process training over 600 educators/caretakers.
Prescription for Play
Our programme ‘Prescription for Play’ is for U.S. based healthcare providers who see 18- to 36-month-old patients. The goal of the program is to promote Learning through Play as a standard part of pediatric primary care, building on providers’ trusted advisor status. Caregivers are given play kits featuring DUPLO® bricks as a prompt to launch the conversation about the importance of play. The aim is to develop parental and caregiver understanding of the benefits of Learning through Play encouraging them to incorporate more of it in their daily lives. Today, more than 2,500 healthcare practitioners in 50 U.S. states and two territories are participating in the program. In total, more than 2.4 million play kits have been distributed across the United States and an additional 500,000 in China.
Build to Give
The holiday season should be a time of joy and festive cheer, but for many children and families, it can be difficult. Through the LEGO Group, families and fans can join the Build to Give campaign by building and sharing holiday ornaments. For every ornament displayed in-store or shared online, we donate a LEGO set to a child in need of play.
Established in 2021, the network now consists of 17 children's and science museums across the U.S. The museums are dedicated to embedding Learning through Play experiences for children and caregivers in their exhibits and programs, and developing high impact programming for underserved children through reciprocal partnerships with community organizations.
