Jamie’s top 5 LEGO® sets for inspiring creativity

Street artist-turned-painter Jamie shares his five favorite LEGO® sets for igniting your imagination.

LEGO® Art The Milky Way Galaxy (31212)

“I love all things galaxy. It’s obviously very artistic and super colorful, but also very accessible to everyone. It’s great that you can not only build the set, but it’s then a piece of artwork in itself that can be displayed.”

What could be more awe-inspiring than a journey through our beautiful cosmos? Stop by the Crab Nebula and the Pillars of Creation as you join the Gaia Space Telescope mapping the stars. There’s even an accompanying podcast to get you up to speed on all things space.

LEGO® Icons Leonardo da Vinci’s Flying Machine (10363)

“It’s so iconic. Leonardo da Vinci is obviously somebody who had a really creative mind. He had such an insight into so many things in the world. He made so many inventions, and this is one of his creations. It would be nice to replicate that. Plus, it opens people’s minds to new ideas.”

Da Vinci really was ahead of his time. His flying machine, or ornithopter, featured an open airframe, bird-like wings and a series of pulleys and hinges that could be operated by a pilot’s legs. Although never built, this feat of aviation paved the way for the invention of flight many centuries later. Proof that there’s no limit to our imaginations.

    LEGO® Pirates Skull’s Eye Schooner (6286)

“My number three would be the LEGO pirate ship I had as a child. I think I got it as a birthday or holiday present when I was about eight. I can still feel the excitement of opening that box today and building it all in one go. I loved chasing my sister with the sharks!”

LEGO® Art Vincent van Gogh – Sunflowers (31215)

“Van Gogh’s Sunflowers is probably the first artwork lots of people see. It really evokes joy with the colors he used in the mark making. I’m influenced a lot by art history and the Masters, so this is a nice accessible way to learn about those classic pieces.”

Van Gogh picked up his brushes to paint these beautiful blooms more than a century ago, to say ‘welcome’ to his friend and fellow artist Paul Gauguin. The sunflowers are thought to
symbolize hope and the beauty of nature. No wonder they’re still so mesmerizing today.

LEGO® Art Keith Haring – Dancing Figures (31216)

“Keith Haring is iconic in the world of graffiti and street art. He was a big influence in my life growing up and still now in my art. Haring painted a lot of the subway posters in the 70s and 80s, when graffiti was first kicking off in New York. His work has been replicated for years. You see it in all sorts of branding now. He talked a lot about trying to be like a child and getting back to the play state. I’m a big believer in that.”

Bold lines, vibrant colors and distinctive energy — Haring’s 3D Dancing Figures make you want to move and create. The perfect artwork for a studio or home office.
