Build a cozy LEGO® carrot cottage

Build a cozy carrot cottage with your family this spring

The town of Blossom Burrow is abuzz with excitement! A new neighbor is soon to move into the allotment on Hare Hill, and they’ve hired the most reputable construction firm around… you and your kids! That’s right, your team of budding builders have been tasked with the assembly of a carrot-inspired home. So, grab lots (and lots!) of orange LEGO® bricks and let’s get to work!

Lay the groundwork

Assemble your team of mini architects, interior designers and landscape gardeners, and free their imaginations to create something magical, maybe even a bit unusual. You could start by drawing your design, or if they can’t wait to get going, simply let the building commence.

LEGO baseplates make a great foundation for any brick-built home, so use these as a starting point for your masterpiece. Focus first on the exterior, the walls, roof, windows and let’s not forget, a welcoming front door, before moving on to the interiors of your home. You can save on bricks by creating your home as a cross-section (with no back walls) allowing access to any rooms you may decide to add inside.

If you’re building carrot creations, orange cone pieces or orange LEGO bricks work perfectly for the body, with green plant pieces for the top. But fear not, your carrots don’t have to be uniform. They can come in whichever shape, size, style or color you like.

And of course, your carrot-inspired home can be whatever you wish it to be! Whether it features a grassy thatched roof, carrot-shaped pillars, or something else entirely, it’s the little touches and surprises that will make it special. So dare to dream beyond the humble carrot and make it your own!

Tales of the carrot cottage

Now that the cottage is complete, it’s time to reveal Blossom Burrows’ newest resident. Begin with a few suggestions to get your kids’ creative minds ticking.

A rabbit resident make sense, but there are plenty of alternatives. Why not carrots for residents? Or a carrot-obsessed farmer? Don’t be afraid to get creative and think big.

When you’ve agreed on the owner of your new home, you can start storytelling. Encourage your kids to use the creation like a dolls’ house, playing out different parts of the day to help them picture life in this new carrot home.

As they play, ask them questions that will expand beyond the doors of this build. What do the neighbors’ houses look like? Who lives at the broccoli bungalow down the road? Which vegetable house would they choose to nestle into? What’s growing outside this spring?

With their imaginations fully captivated, the opportunities for fun activities are endless. Why not sketch an entire vegetable village out together; after all, once the townsfolk have seen your handiwork, they’ll be queueing up to hire you!

Keeping your carrot cottage on display will make sure your kids keep returning to it, either as the inspiration for more whimsical builds, or as a cute conversation starter. Who knows what the residents of the carrot cottage will be up to by the time summer bounds in?
