Bring your love of Star Wars into a whole new dimension with our expert fan builder @farawaybricks and their take on how to turn your collectible minifigures into an epic stand-out display – solving the dilemma of loose minifigures and allowing for personal touches that really enhance your display.

A Darth Maul vs. Qui-Gon Jinn battle? Or a playful take on Luke and Darth Vader’s, erm… complex relationship? Let’s get started...

    Making a LEGO® minifigure stand

There are plenty of iconic Star Wars moments to recreate through LEGO building – the “I am your father” scene, the frozen Han Solo… the list goes on! And building your own LEGO vignette base has never been easier – with only 23 LEGO pieces, you can create a sturdy, adaptable base to suit your scene…

Choosing the right design and background is key to ensuring that your display truly captures the drama in each ‘freeze frame’ moment. You should keep the background simple, @farawaybricks says, to “frame the build like you would something you’d film with a camera!”

Size certainly doesn’t matter when it comes to attention to detail, and top tip: keep it precise and deliberate. “Be smart about what you include in the display boundaries,” says @farawaybricks. “The build should feel like a cutout of a larger scene; use shaping to imply the scene extending beyond the boundaries of the frame.”

Just like when making LEGO terrain, you can experiment with different techniques to create realistic textures in your scenes. For example, our LEGO building expert explains: “I used tapering solid blue colors under the transparent elements, making the water look very crystalline and pretty, while also adding depth.”

Keep your stand and display small and focus on the placement, position and pose of your characters. Less is more! “No matter what you decide to build, a small display base is a great way to showcase your figures with just a handful of elements,” says @farawaybricks.

Now that you’re equipped with the knowledge of how to do it, you can extend your display with no fears about minifigures getting knocked into another galaxy and enjoy the building experience for even longer. The final outcome? An epic exhibit that belongs in any universe…
