LEGO® MINDSTORMS® EV3 Intelligent Brick won't turn on
It’s frustrating when a LEGO® MINDSTORMS® EV3 Intelligent Brick won’t turn on! Thankfully this usually isn’t caused by a problem with the brick itself. You might just need to adjust the springs in the battery compartment. Follow these steps to take care of the issue:
1. Check the battery springs
Take all the batteries out of the EV3 Brick and look at the springs (especially the one in the lower right-hand corner).
2. Unbend the spring
If the lower right-hand spring is bent, carefully straighten it so that it looks like the other springs.
3. Carefully replace the battery
If you're using the MINDSTORMS® EV3 Rechargeable DC Battery, make sure the battery tabs line up with the grooves on the right before pressing the battery all the way in. When it's in the right place the clips on the right will easily click into place. If you’re using standard AA batteries, make sure the positive and negative ends are in the right position.
Keep in mind: The EV3 Brick is only compatible with 1.5V AA alkaline batteries or a LEGO® MINDSTORMS® EV3 Rechargeable DC Battery. Rechargeable lithium batteries from other brands are NOT recommended!
4. Turn on the EV3 Brick
Press the ‘ON’ button and the brick should start up as normal!
If your EV3 Brick still won’t turn on, you can try manually updating and resetting the firmware, or get in touch with us.
