10 secrets to uncover in the new LEGO® Wednesday sets!

The new LEGO® Wednesday sets are packed with Easter eggs! Sharpen your hatchets and get ready for a deep dive into the secrets lurking within these sinister builds...

Do you get nauseous at the sight of rainbows and enjoy crashing funerals? Okay, so maybe you’re not quite as into the dark side as Wednesday Addams. But if you’re a big fan of the TV series Wednesday, you might know we’ve released three new LEGO sets based on the hit series phenomenon.

The LEGO Wednesday Addams Figure (76780), the Wednesday and Enid BrickHeadz™ (40750) and Wednesday & Enid’s Dorm Room (76781) a stunning gothic-inspired LEGO offering.

It’s safe to say our designers loved every minute of the creative process behind them. We caught up with them to share some behind-the-scenes secrets and sneaky details. So why not grab your magnifying glass and dive in?

    1. A moonlit feel

Wednesday may only stop wearing black when they make a darker color, but did you notice the use of sand-blue tones in these villainous builds? Rather than opting for an all-grey palette, the designers added this color, which is a bit like gray but with a moonlit hue, to create a coolness.

The moonlit feel certainly makes for a dystopian hell-scape we’re sure Wednesday would be proud of.

    2. Thing’s evolution

In both sets, Thing was originally attached to Wednesday’s arms. But for her to be able to hold other objects and accessories, the team decided to create Thing as a brand-new element – it’s very own ‘thing’! This meant adjusting the hand design so that it could clip onto any exposed stud anywhere in the set.

Creating Thing as its own, brand-new element also meant that the level of detail and decoration on its monster-like scars could be ramped up a notch, really bringing the mystery-solving sidekick to ‘life’!

    3. Dress to impress

When creating Wednesday Addams’s skirt (76780), the team re-purposed the nose cone piece from the LEGO Concorde set.

It’s the first time this element has been used outside of the Concorde set and it needed some tweaks to match Wednesday’s monochrome wardrobe. But after being recolored in black and with a decal added, Wednesday’s skirt was complete!

It’s not the only repurposed element in this set either. Did you spot the black hockey sticks on the Nevermore Academy sign?

    4. Detailing the doll

When decorating the minidoll’s sleeves, the design team went beyond the usual one-color design. For Wednesday’s outfit in the dorm room set, to look true to the series, the team decided it was essential to opt for black and grey striped sleeves. She might just be the coolest minidoll so far.

    5. Introducing four new gargoyles

In the dorm room set, four new gargoyles can be found perching on the building’s ledge! Guess what? They’re completely unique to this build!

Initially, the team played around with the level of detail on these beastly elements, but decided on a more minimalistic design to fit with the LEGO Group’s design DNA.

    6. What’s hiding?

    Spoiler alert.

One of the sets includes a hidden reference to the big villain in the show. Hint – it’s on the book and sounds like ‘hide’...

    7. Detective hats on

Did you notice the brick-built version of Wednesday’s detective board in the dorm room set is less macabre? To keep the set aligned with LEGO design principles, the details include sinister silhouettes and investigative notes.

    8. Wednesday’s face

She’s certainly a, err, unique girl, so a whole new element was created for Wednesday’s face. The team worked hard to strike a balance between the minimalistic LEGO ethos and the show’s gothic tones for her expression. They even enhanced it with graphics to accurately portray Wednesday.

Fun fact: it took about fifty iterations to get it perfect!

    9. Botanicals... but paint it black

Wednesday Addams’ favorite flower is the black dahlia, so the designers couldn’t help creating a brand-new element of the bloom, which they then combined with a three-leaf piece in the new colorway of transparent black, adding an even more gothic twist.

    10. A fresh pane of glass

No existing piece looked quite right for the stunning circular window at Ophelia Hall, so the team created the 8x8 cockpit-style element specifically for this set.

This meant the team could really bring to life the opposing décor styles that represent Enid and Wednesday’s juxtaposing personalities in the series. Bravo!

There’s more where that came from… Look out for Wednesday’s typewriter, her cello, Enid’s diary and a lot more in the new LEGO Wednesday sets.

Right, we’re signing off now, before we give it all away…
