Setting up Your LEGO® Fish Tank: A Beginner’s Guide

A Beginner’s Guide to Setting up Your LEGO® Icons Tropical Aquarium

Gone are the days of out-of-control algae and compatible fish drama, thanks to this smart, no-maintenance aquarium…
Checking the pH levels, changing the filter, feeding the fish… owning an aquarium is a full-time job, or is it? With our brand-new LEGO® Icons Tropical Aquarium (10366), take your passion for aquatics to new depths, enjoying the peace and tranquillity without the stressful maintenance.

Our beginner’s guide to setting up your aquarium offers everything you need to get started, including how to stock your aquarium, which creatures to consider, and how to care for your aquatic companions (don’t worry, you just need a dust cloth!). Let’s dive in, shall we?

1. Setting up

From gravel colors to plants and ornaments, there’s a lot to take in and decisions to make before even beginning to set up a living aquarium.

The LEGO Icons Tropical Aquarium means no pump setup, no heater faff, no filter system programming and no water preparations (or soggy sleeves!). We can sidestep the ‘boring’ bits and swim straight to the fun part – the aquascaping.

Not sure where to put everything? Our aquarium includes easy-to-follow assembly instructions, so you know exactly where to place each fish, coral and plant.

2. Select the location

Finding the perfect position for your fish tank is hassle-free compared to owning a living aquarium. Why? Because there’s not an epic inventory of dos and don’ts. Say goodbye to the stress of finding the ideal spot – this aquarium weighs a fraction of the real deal, meaning it can take pride of place anywhere you like.

And once built, you can easily reposition the LEGO Icons Tropical Aquarium wherever you like in your home – spillage-free!

Plus, you can even have it in your bedroom and sleep soundly without the constant sound of a whirring filter that living aquariums just can’t, well, live without.

3. Adding the fish

Which species of fish will live in your aquarium? Tropical? Salt water? Cold water? Are they compatible, or will they consider eating each other for dinner? Luckily, you can forget all about fish getting along and survival of the fittest! Puffer fish? And piranha? You do you!

As the LEGO Icons Tropical Aquarium comes with fish included (happily compatible fish, might we add), you can bypass the bother of buying real fish. Our fish are ready to be added to their new home without the long introduction and temperature acclimation process. Just build, place and get naming. If that’s not enough, why not add some of your own brick-built fish?

4. Cleaning your aquarium

Picture this… you come home from a long day at work, only to find that your aquarium is covered in slimy green algae, and something smells fishy… quite literally. Now picture this… a glistening aquarium so fresh and clean every day of the year. No water changes. No temperature management here, oh no.

With the LEGO Icons Tropical Aquarium, intense algae cleaning is no more. The only freshening up you’ll need to do involves a dust cloth or soft brush and takes minutes.

5. Feeding the fish

When it comes to feeding your fish, a balanced diet appropriate for their species is key to a healthy, long life. Avoid overfeeding as this can not only impact the health of your fish, but lead to polluted water… OK, let’s stop there.

You’ll be glad to know that doesn’t apply to our LEGO fish. In fact, they don’t need any food (shocker, right?). Rather than feeding them to get them to move you can use the built-in mechanism to make them wiggle about! So, instead of worrying about whether you’ve got the right food, whether it’s too much or not enough, you can just sit back, relax and admire your everlasting fishy friends year after year after year.

6. Customizing

Giving your living aquarium a new layout is a lot of effort. Removing the fish, so they don’t get stressed. Ensuring you’re wearing special gloves, so you don’t contaminate the water. It’s probably just easier to leave it be, right?

With the LEGO Icons Tropical Aquarium, you have none of these concerns, as customizing your aquarium is easy. Why not adjust the aquascape by repositioning plants, removing or swapping coral for different components instead? Don’t be afraid to think outside of the box, or tank, in this case.

Psst… if you’re looking for more customization inspiration, check out our 3 ways to personalize your aquarium.
