Merlin’s Beard! Despite being over two decades since the first Harry Potter book was released, the magical adventures of Hogwarts™ and the Wizarding World continue to be incredibly popular.
Full of rich, exciting characters, from Hermione Granger™ and Albus Dumbledore™ to eccentric villains like Bellatrix Lestrange and Lord Voldermort™ (yes, we said his name), this is a franchise engrained into pop culture. It’s the amazing, diverse range of characters that really drives the magic of the theme.
Many of them have been immortalized in bricks as part of the LEGO BrickHeadz™ collection. Since 2018, we have seen a good range of Wizarding World offerings, making the perfect collection for any avid fan wishing to display their fandom.
So, let’s dive into the Great Hall and explore the fantastical characters released in this must-have collection.
LEGO BrickHeadz are the perfect size for displaying and won’t break Gringotts™ bank.
Marcos Bessa had the very important job of designing them. He says, “I like the ones that challenge the [square] form [of bricks] but remain LEGO BrickHeadz. One I particularly enjoyed creating was Nagini, the snake from Harry Potter™.”
“Overall, I’m really happy with how the theme has developed. It’s great for fans who just want to build a character, but they also encourage customixzation,” adds Marcos.
Like changing Professor Snape’s hairstyle, maybe?
Back in 2018, the first three LEGO Harry Potter BrickHeadz were launched, a new style of buildable merch for Wizarding World fans honoring the 2001 movie, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone™.
One of these sets was Harry Potter & Hedwig™ (41615), an adorable display piece representing years of friendship between a young wizard and his pet owl, featuring the famous lightning scar and Gryffindor™ scarf.
Also released in 2018 was Hermione Granger (41616), the cleverest witch in her year who came with her very own LEGO brick wand and spell book. In fact, she’s the only character from the Wizarding World (so far) to appear on her own as a LEGO BrickHeadz figure.
The final set to accompany these was the very popular Ron Weasley™ & Albus Dumbledore (41621). The detail in this set was on a new level, and with Dumbledore’s elaborate robe print and realistic beard this set really popped. The 1x1 quarter circle tiles that resemble Ron’s ginger hair were made in a new orange color especially for this set!
Later, Ron appears again in a LEGO BrickHeadz set launched in 2021 featuring him, Hermione, Harry and Hagrid™, but this time with slightly darker hair.
After the last Harry Potter movie, there was much anticipation what would come next. Five years later, Fantastic Beasts™ hit the big screen. A prequel that introduced us to an entirely new set of magical characters.
Yup, make way for LEGO BrickHeadz in the form of Newt Scamander™ & Gellert Grindelwald (41631). The LEGO designer did a great job, making them look almost uncanny to the characters. Newt comes with his signature waistcoat, coat and detachable case.
Plus, notice the dark wizard’s two different-colored eyes?
From dragons and Nifflers to centaurs and phoenixes, the Wizarding World has introduced us to a wide array of magical creatures.
One of the most iconic is Buckbeak™ the Hippogriff from Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban™. Hagrid & Buckbeak (40412) was the fourth LEGO Harry Potter BrickHeadz set launched in 2020. It was only available as a Gift with Purchase (which meant it came free when spending over a certain amount on other LEGO Harry Potter sets).
This makes it rarer and more collectible than a Horcrux!
The Wizarding World encompasses stories of love, friendship, fun and bravery. Four characters who taught us the importance of all these things are Harry, Hermione, Ron and Hagrid, who got their own LEGO BrickHeadz (set 40495) in 2021.
This set saw a subtle design change to make Hagrid tower above the three students. Harry, Ron and Hermione are much smaller than their original builds from 2018 (making them all the cuter) to show the contrast in height between the loveable Gamekeeper.
In fact, Ron, Hermione, Harry and Hagrid have all had two versions made of them in LEGO BrickHeadz form, albeit in different sizes.
Though we don’t speak Parseltongue, or acquaint ourselves with Death Eaters™, Voldemort, Nagini & Bellatrix (40496) were a worthy addition to the lineup in 2021. The designs of this trio pushed the LEGO BrickHeadz formula. From the leg-concealing cloak of Voldemort to the spiraling layers of Nagini. Then there’s Bellatrix! Using 112 parts alone just to create her impressive brick hair, this is more than the total used in some LEGO BrickHeadz sets. Siriusly!
“Hogwarts is my home.” – Professor Trelawney
A quote famously said in Harry Potter & The Order of the Phoenix™, the school would never have felt like home without all the professors who dedicated their lives to teaching students magic. (If only we had a Portkey to take us there).
So, in 2022 we got the LEGO BrickHeadz Professors of Hogwarts (40560) featuring buildable models of Professors Snape™, McGonagall™, Mad Eye Moody and Trelawney. All iconic in their own way.
The Professors of Hogwarts is perhaps one of the coolest in the collection with fantastic attention to detail (just look at Moody’s magical glass eye). A must for the collection.
Throughout his time at Hogwarts School, Harry Potter had a teenage crush or two. In 2023, LEGO BrickHeadz gave us the opportunity to do a little match-making with Harry Potter and Cho Chang (40616) together in their Quidditch™ House robes: an adorable duo and a set that gave us a unique, scarred head tile and, although not unique, it’s always great to get a Golden Snitch™.
Rivals were also rife in school.
Another addition to the 2023 lineup was Harry Potter’s blonde arch nemesis Draco Malfoy™. Finally, he got his own figure in this double pack, alongside Harry’s fiercely brave competitor Cedric Diggory in the Triwizard Tournament set (40617). The bold colors, unique House prints and accessories in the form of a broom and a trophy make this a fab addition.
The final 2023 set took time to recognize the friends Harry made outside of school, too. A special nod to members of The Order of the Phoenix™, Kingsley Shacklebolt and talented witch Nymphadora Tonks, who both fought bravely alongside Harry in the Battle of Hogwarts. Their LEGO BrickHeadz are beautifully detailed from Shacklebolt’s majestic robes to Tonks’ purple hair!
You will certainly enjoy building and collecting these LEGO BrickHeadz. With the releases so far, you can create an impressive spectrum of the colorful characters from the Wizarding World. Not only that, but also a space-efficient display which means there’s plenty of room for more. In fact, while you are awaiting the next additions, why not stray from the instructions and make your own awesome creations?
