Extreme Examples of LEGO® Home decor!

Check out these four LEGO® builders who quite literally built their hobby into their home...

We’ve all built a house out of LEGO bricks, but how about building your house out of LEGO bricks (or thereabouts)? These four passionate fans have turned their hobby into some extreme – and incredibly cool – home decor projects...

    Follow the yellow brick... walls

Janet Turford and Alan Wilkinson from Pontypool in South Wales, UK, joked about creating a giant LEGO wall in their games room, and then decided to make their vision a reality!

“Our games room was already quite quirky, with a pool table, karaoke set and bar, but we wanted something extra special to decorate a plain bit of wall – it was crying out for an injection of fun”, says Janet.

“We both adore LEGO building, so we joked about creating an interactive wall of LEGO bricks that our friends, family and grandchildren could enjoy with us.

“Before we knew it, that little ‘joke’ had become a labor of love, taking 10 months to complete, fitting building around work and weekends.

“We decided not to over-plan it because we still wanted it to have that childlike, naive feel. We added doors, windows, little plinths for minifigures, and the words ‘GAMES ROOM’ running through the middle.

“It took thousands of bricks – we massively underestimated how many! We had to scour through secondhand shops, yard sales and online sellers to source enough!

“My favorite part is a thief escaping down a ladder from a policeman!” she adds.

In a coffee table far, far away...

Jeremy Mehta, from Washington D.C., USA, found a jaw-dropping way to display his LEGO Star Wars™ Millennium Falcon™ (75192), by encapsulating it in a see-through coffee table, creating a spectacular centerpiece for his living space.

"When the UCS Millennium Falcon was released in 2017, I was in my PhD program, living in a small apartment. There was simply no room to put it, but that didn’t stop me from buying it!

“Over the next 3 years (and with a little help from my woodworker uncle, Bill), I made it my hobby to construct a diorama of everyone’s favorite sinister battle station (Docking Bay 327) inside a coffee table.

“It’s a build packed with storytelling and small details that you uncover each time you look at it. In the table, you’ll find Marvel, Harry Potter™, Pixar, Indiana Jones™, SNL and Lord of the Rings™ references. There are also a few fun scenes between characters, such as a guard dropping their ice cream, and a cat chasing a Mouse Droid™. I even hid scenes in the ‘shaft’ below the Emperor’s throne room!

“I included a lighting system and playable features like an accessible garbage chute, sliding bridges and doors, tractor beam controls and much more.

“It was an absolute joy to build. I love seeing friends’ and family’s faces light up when they discover the little details and characters placed around the build.”

    Display of dreams

We may have saved the best (and by best we mean most gargantuan) until last. Jordan Forsythe from Edmonton, Canada, known to LEGO fans as ‘Bricksie’ online, has a whopping space customized to display of his vast collection of LEGO sets.

“I quite randomly started building and collecting LEGO sets in 2015 after being influenced by some people I followed on social media, and found it a good stress reliever,” Jordan said.

“My new hobby very rapidly became an obsession, and I soon purchased my first display shelf! After building my first modular building (LEGO Creator Expert Detective’s Office 10246), I decided to build a small city... the rest is history!

“In 2020, I was lucky enough to give up my job to make a career from LEGO building (with my wife joining me a year later). We’ve been able to get a studio space especially for displaying our vast collection.

“I use open shelving units, grouping sets by theme such as Mario™, Marvel, Batman™, DC, Icons, and a particular passion of mine, Star Wars! For my City builds however, I like to display them all together on tables, creating the effect of a miniature hustling, bustling city. I use road plates for added realism.

“My favorite part? I honestly can’t choose – I love them all for different reasons!”
