The castle itself looks great built and there are a lot of elements that you can separate out and use to build your own design course. I wasn't particularly keen on the layout of this kit as is, the hinged plates just look ugly and it felt like a way to keep the piece count and therefore the price down. I would have rather paid a little bit more and had clean, straight lines. The Piranha Plant looks great but it doesn't pull back as well as the in app video shows, not a big issue if there are two of you playing as one can move him after the other hits the trigger point. The big downside for me was that you have no build instructions in the kit it all has to be downloaded through the app. Make sure your device has full battery before you start, especially if you are building multiple sets in the series at the same time or else you can get in the situation I was in where 2 bags from the end my battery died. The 1 minute timer does mean you have no hope of completing a large course. I thought it would be nice if when you click Start on the app it asks you which kits you have your course built from and it adjusts the timer to suit. - August 7th, 2020Average rating5out of 5 stars5.0Great for kids who like Mario!Meinte |I would recommend this to a friend! My son has never really been in to playing with lego having preferred to play video games instead. When he got this kit, that changed as he loved being able to build his own mario levels using lego and interacting with it via the app. Mario interacts with the lego by landing on interactive stickers on some of the pieces, causing him to make the same noises from the video game and even collect coins when jumping on the heads of bad guys. To play you need to install a free app on your phone which will show you building instructions and allow you to keep tally of your score. We were very impressed by the expansion and it was fun trying to avoid the bob-bomb and using the catapult to get past the lava. Everything gels together nicely and the expansion kit seamlessly integrates with the starter pack. I would definitely recommend this kit, especially for children who enjoy the mario video gamesPlay Experience5.0Level of Difficulty2.0Was this helpful?55Guarded Fortress Expansion Set
- August 15th, 2020Average rating5out of 5 stars5.0WonderfulAshraj |I would recommend this to a friend! This was a fantastic gift for my son as he already owns a super Mario starter course. It was quite easier to build and provided hours of fun to my son. My son could choose his own route from Mario to reach the guarded fortress. There is a free Lego super Mario app available, which helped in constricting and gives a lot of creative ideas. Over all its hours of fun and keeps my son engaged.Play Experience5.0Level of Difficulty2.0Value for Money5.0Was this helpful?55Guarded Fortress Expansion Set
- December 27th, 2020Average rating1out of 5 stars1.0Dependent on an AppNorville |Purchased for: SonAnother fun toy ruined by the need for another device new enough to run the app, an app that won't run on a laptop. Purchased the starter set plus a bunch of sets to surprise the boys for Christmas only to find out that it requires an app on a new enough device to download the instructions. The lack of the instructions was not made clear on the box or the website. I'm typing this annoyed review while they are using my phone to build the castle set and in order to play with the sets together they have to connect Mario to my phone. What happened to allowing them to build independently. This is forcing parents to get devices for children and allow them on the internet, I trust my kids, I don't trust the creeps that use these apps to track or stalk children.29 December 2020Jayare, Customer ServiceHi there, thank you for taking the time to write this review, we appreciate your feedback. We’re always looking to explore new and exciting ways to play. One of those ways is by having digital building instructions that allow for awesome features like zooming in or viewing the build from many different angles. We’re sorry to hear you were disappointed that this set doesn’t have a physical instruction book. If you don't want to use the app for building or playing, you can download and print PDF instructions from LEGO.build/MarioBI-BV!Play Experience1.0Level of Difficulty1.0Value for Money1.0Build Time: 30 minsBuilding Experience: Expert LEGO builderWas this helpful?15Guarded Fortress Expansion Set
