On July 20, 1969, humans walked on the moon for the first time in history. The Apollo 11 mission launched on July 16th with a three-person crew consisting of Neil Armstrong, the Commander, Edwin E. Aldrin Jr. (also known as Buzz Aldrin), the Lunar Module Pilot, and Michael Collins, the Command Module Pilot. After reaching the moon, the crew landed in the Sea of Tranquility, collected rock samples, performed scientific research, and took photographs of the moon’s surface. They spent more than 21 hours on the surface of the moon before returning to the orbiting Saturn rocket, and flying home to Earth.
