Top tips for passing on your passion for LEGO® Star Wars™

Top tips for passing on your passion for LEGO® Star Wars

There’s so much to love about Star Wars™, and one of its most iconic aspects is the enduring mentoring relationships that exist between Masters and their apprentices.

Whether it’s Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan, Yoda and Luke or, later, Luke and Rey, there are so many incredible lessons and so much wisdom passed down through the generations.

Much like the great Jedi Masters, there comes a time in many Star Wars fans’ lives when they must decide the best way to train their young Padawans in the ways of the Force.

We believe nothing ignites a passion like play and the shared experience of building together, so here are some top tips for passing your passion for LEGO® Star Wars on to your young Padawans.

Start small

The Force is complicated, and it’s best to begin at the beginning. After all, long before Luke Skywalker was using the Jedi Mind Trick, he started by tracking the blasts of a simple training remote.

So, when it comes to building the fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy, for example, more advanced builders (like yourself) might start with the 921-piece 25th anniversary LEGO Star Wars Millennium Falcon™. However, young Padawans will likely find it easier to start with the smaller 74-piece Millennium Falcon set.

If your apprentices are fans of Star Wars: The Clone Wars™, then they might also like the LEGO Star Wars Plo Koon’s Jedi Starfighter™ Microfighter. This set also includes a Plo Koon minifigure with a blue Lightsaber™ and an R7-D4 head element that attaches to the fuselage in front of the cockpit so the droid can co-pilot on new roleplaying missions.

Tell the story

Star Wars is all about stories, and there’s nothing better than weaving narratives into the building process.

While you and your apprentice are building the LEGO Star Wars Home One Starcruiser, for example, you could tell the story of how, in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi™, the Rebel Alliance used this ship to launch their crucial attack at the Battle of Endor. You might have the soundtrack on in the background to create a little mood or, assuming it’s not too distracting, even watch the climactic movie of the original trilogy while you build.

Once the set is built, you’ll have the chance to create stories of your own, filling in any gaps in the actual tale or launching off on brand new adventures of your own.

And speaking of stories, one of the most interesting in the galaxy belongs to Jango Fett and his son Boba Fett. Now, you can play as these two characters with LEGO Star Wars Jango Fett’s Starship, complete with four stud shooters, a seismic charge-dropping function and wings that rotate with gravity. There are also three LEGO minifigures, including Jango Fett, Young Boba Fett and Lama Su.

Embrace the new and trust their instincts

While many legacy fans started with the original trilogy or the prequel trilogy, your apprentices might have discovered Star Wars through shows, video games or comic books.

Fans of Star Wars: The Clone Wars will love the V-19 Torrent Starfighter set with two stud shooters and adjustable wings for flight and landing modes.

And what better pairing than the LEGO  Star Wars Acclamator-Class Assault Ship set? This iconic vehicle can be displayed on the stand with a nameplate. And if you want to learn more about the cast of characters that call the galaxy far, far away home, then click here to meet the LEGO Star Wars minifigures…

Let them find their own way (but don’t be afraid to lead)

If you’ve watched Star Wars: The Mandalorian™, you will have seen Din Djarin’s soft-touch teaching style. He doesn’t overcorrect or try to control Grogu, even when he presses buttons that he shouldn’t.

There’s a good lesson here: self-discovery is important and there are no more powerful lessons than those we learn ourselves.

The LEGO Star Wars The Mandalorian’s N-1 Starfighter is a 412-piece set includes the Mandalorian, Grogu with a hover pram and R5-D4.

Of course, sometimes a little leadership will be needed. In the climactic battle of Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, that leadership came from the Home One Starcruiser commanded by Admiral Ackbar. Inspire your own leadership with the new set based on this iconic ship that includes a small, brick-built Nebulon-B Medical Frigate that can be displayed ‘flying’ alongside the Home One Starcruiser.

Pass on your passion with LEGO® Star Wars™

The Star Wars series has captivated generations and shows no signs of slowing down. It’s a wonderful world passed down from generation to generation. Follow our top tips, and your apprentices will soon be as passionate as you.

And, who knows, one day they might even pass on the same lessons to their very own Padawan learners.
