Top tips for passing on your passion for LEGO® Star Wars™

Top tips for passing on your passion for LEGO® Star Wars

There’s so much to love about Star Wars™, and one of its most iconic aspects is the enduring mentoring relationships that exist between Masters and their apprentices.

Whether it’s Qui Go and Obi-Wan, Yoda and Luke, or, later, Luke and Rey, there are so many incredible lessons and so much wisdom passed down through the generations.

Much like the great Jedi Masters, there comes a time in many Star Wars fans’ lives when they must decide the best way to train their young Padawans in the ways of the Force.

We believe nothing ignites a passion like play and the shared experience of building together, so here are some top tips for passing your passion for LEGO® Star Wars on to your young Padawans.

    Start small

The Force is complicated, and it’s best to begin at the beginning. After all, long before Luke Skywalker was using the Jedi Mind Trick or Force Projection, he started by tracking the blasts of a simple training remote.

So when it comes to building the fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy, for example, more advanced builders (like yourself) might start with the 921-piece 25th anniversary LEGO Star Wars Millennium Falcon™. However, young Padawans will likely find it easier to start with the 74-piece Millennium Falcon set, letting them grasp the basics of building before moving on to more complicated lessons.

    Tell the story

Star Wars is all about stories, and there’s nothing better than adding these narratives into the building process.

While you and your apprentice are building the LEGO Star Wars Home One Starcruiser, you can tell the story of how, in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi™, the Rebel Alliance used this ship to launch their crucial attack at the Battle of Endor.

Or you can recreate the pivotal Battle of Geonosis from Star Wars: Attack of the Clones™ with the LEGO Star Wars Acclamator-Class Assault Ship™ that was used to deliver Clone Troopers into another critical battle.

Your young apprentices will feed off your passion and, in the end, you’ll have two stunning sets for in-home display.

Embrace the new and trust their instincts

While many legacy Star Wars fans started with the original trilogy or the prequel trilogy, newer fans have countless entry points into the galaxy.

Your young apprentices might have discovered Star Wars through TV shows, video games or comic books.

Allow your Padawans to build their passion based on the characters they love the most.

Fans of Star Wars: The Clone Wars™ will immediately recognise the LEGO Star Wars Ahsoka’s Jedi Interceptor™. The brick-built Jedi Interceptor features an opening cockpit, adjustable wings for attack and cruise modes and two spring-loaded shooters. It also has two LEGO Star Wars minifigures, Ahsoka Tano and Anakin Skywalker with Lightsabers™, and an R7-A7 LEGO droid figure.

You can sit Ahsoka in the Jedi Interceptor’s cockpit, and there’s room on board for R7-A7 and for storing Ahsoka’s Lightsabers. You might not even have seen the show, but if they have, then trust their instincts.

Let them find their own way

If you’ve watched Star Wars: The Mandalorian™, you’ve seen Din Djarin’s soft-touch teaching style. He doesn’t overcorrect or try to control Grogu, even when he presses buttons that he shouldn’t.

There’s a good lesson here: self-discovery is important and there are no more powerful lessons than the one we learn ourselves.

The LEGO Star Wars The Mandalorian’s N-1 Starfighter™ is a 412-piece set with a buildable fueling station. It includes three LEGO Star Wars characters: the Mandalorian with a darksaber and jetpack, Grogu with a hover pram, and R5-D4.

It’ll be a challenge for newer builders, so you can sit back and watch them find their own way through it. This is the way.

Pass on your passion with LEGO® Star Wars

The Star Wars series has captivated generations and shows no signs of slowing down. It’s a wonderful world passed down from generation to generation. Follow our top tips, and your apprentices will soon be as passionate as you are about all things Star Wars. And, who knows, one day they might even pass on the same lessons to their very own Padawan learners.
