Designing a playful future

Our Design Academy creates an environment that sparks creativity and is a great place for our 240+ Designers to network.

Behind the Bricks cover

At the LEGO Group, we care about sparking our people’s imagination and curiosity.

We believe that from day one, our people should be given all the tools they need to learn, develop even further and grow into awesome LEGO® colleague. Because when our people are awesome, they design and create meaningful sets that help develop the builders of tomorrow.

Once you join our Design team you’ll have access to the Design Academy from your first day. In fact, your onboarding classes will be part of the academy. You’ll get the opportunity to hear from our current Designers as they share their knowledge and tips and tricks with you.

Building a culture filled with knowledge

Imagination is key here, so much so, it’s one of our brand values. You can feel it in the air and see it around us as soon as you walk through the doors in our offices. Most importantly, it’s shown in the sets our Design teams create and share with the world. Joining the Design Academy can help each and every Designer discover something new, and to create awesome products.

The Academies are here to help our design teams spark their thinking and grow their ideas, all at their own pace. It’s a chance for them to learn from each other and help to develop their skills – as well as their personal ones. Most of all, we wanted to build a culture filled with knowledge, sharing and continuous development. That way, we can create exciting, fresh and fun new LEGO sets for children across the world.

Continuous development

Mette Opplelstrup from Design Management Excellence team explains the purpose and value of the Academy:

“We wanted to create a design culture of knowledge sharing and continuous development. We achieve this by giving every Designer the opportunity for growth experience and personal development in a structured program from day 1. The Designers who share knowledge and teach others learn to become both mentors and trainers and they are supported whilst gaining a new skill”

And it’s not just better designing skills that you can gain. Once you join the Academy, you’ll have lots of opportunities to help train and develop your colleagues in design. You can become mentors and trainers, as well as gaining new skills.

Fiorella Groves, Design Manager explains what she has personal gained and how LEGO values are woven into the academy:

“The Design Academy was a great place for me to network and meet designers from other parts of the organization. The courses I’ve taken were fun in so many ways. But generally, the course leaders tend to incorporate some ‘active’ sections in which makes it fun, engaging and interactive”

We’re always surveying and adjusting the training so we can fulfil the hopes and aspirations of our design team. Because at the LEGO Group, we want everyone to feel awesome.
