LEGO® DUPLO® Obstacle Course Activity

Build a LEGO® DUPLO® Course That You’ll Enjoy as Much as Your Toddler

Does your toddler have more energy than a rechargeable battery? Then jump this way, as we’ve got just the exciting activity for you! Introducing the LEGO® DUPLO® obstacle course.

Not only will your child enjoy using LEGO DUPLO bricks to build all the elements of this exhilarating game, but you’ll both have a blast making your way around the course. Plus, your little one will burn off a ton of that unstoppable toddle energy. Double win, right?

    LEGO® DUPLO® brick road

Get ready to head over a rainbow of LEGO DUPLO bricks! The first stretch of your exciting obstacle course can be easily created by grouping together colors of LEGO DUPLO bricks to form the edges of a path.

    Stop and go

Why not add some stealth learning by assigning meaning to colored bricks? So, if your toddler comes across a patch of red LEGO DUPLO bricks, it means stop! If they come across some green LEGO DUPLO bricks, it means go, go, go! You can even create your own easy ‘stop’ and ‘go’ signs using LEGO DUPLO bricks and hold them out at different points of the course to slow things down or speed them up!

    Tunnel fun

No obstacle course is complete without a tunnel to crawl through. Create one in minutes using LEGO DUPLO bricks, brick boxes and other items to build the walls, then simply drape a blanket over the top to make the roof.

Then limber up… it’s time to get your best army crawl on!

    Hurdles ahead

Creating a hurdle section is a great way to get some jumping into your little one’s day – and practice those all-important gross motor skills (warning: this might tire them out).

Create a series of hurdles that are safe and doable for your little one by stacking two LEGO DUPLO towers to hold something in place – it could be anything from a broom handle to a piece of ribbon. Then line them up and watch your toddler go.

    The floor is lava!

Using red LEGO DUPLO bricks, create a lava lake that your little one must avoid at all costs. You could even create little lava streams throughout the course that might catch your little one out.

If lava seems a bit scary, try stuck-in-the-mud-style instead and create brown patches using LEGO DUPLO bricks. Whoever lands on them will have to wait to be rescued!

    Brick in the bucket

It’s never too early to start practicing their aim. On one section of the course, use a shoebox, kitchen container or even an empty brick box as a bucket for your little one to throw LEGO DUPLO bricks into from a set distance. Once they’ve managed to get one in, they can continue on their way. How many will they get in the bucket?

    Speed towers

We’ve practiced gross motor skills – now it’s time to help your little one refine their fine motor skills with a speed tower station. Perfect for a midway point in your course, set up a station with some LEGO DUPLO bricks for you and your toddler to speed-build into towers before you carry on.

    Who’ll be the quickest?
