We’re Obsessed with the LEGO® Editions Olivia Rodrigo Collab. Here’s How It All Came Together

She’s a punk-rock singer-songwriter superstar, with a third album riding atop the global charts and a massive legion of devoted fans big enough to populate its own country (shoutout to our fellow Livies out there!).

It’s Olivia’s world, and we’re just living in it.

And now, that world has a brick-built counterpart. LEGO® Editions and Olivia Rodrigo just dropped a collection of five sets, designed together with Olivia herself. It’s the first time a musician has ever gotten a dedicated, multi-set collab like this. We. Are. Obsessed.

This was so meant to be

Olivia’s music lives in a constant state of creative collision. I’s soft, sharp, gets all vulnerable, then revs up to unhinged. Her pop bridges are literally iconic, and they have a real rock n roll bite to them.

LEGO bricks are all about creative collisions, too: we give you the building instructions to a gorgeous set, then we hype you up to rebuild it however you want using your imagination.

This is one of the many things Olivia and us have in common. We like to go “hey, you, see this bunch of rules? Go break them, have fun!”

Designed with Olivia

To get the real insider look into how it all went down, we spoke to Amy Corbett, the designer behind the sets, about the creative chaos of mixing bricks and music, spotting Olivia’s input all over this collab, and packing on all those hidden surprises for the fans (spoiler: there’s heaps).

“Mixing music and LEGO bricks was a challenge,” Amy says, “but Olivia has so much creativity and such an awesome catalog to work with, from the iconography of her album covers and stage designs, to hidden clues all over her lyrics.”

Like Olivia’s Dual Guitar, inspired by two actual guitars of Olivia’s, and split in the middle to represent the soft/bold/sweet/edgy duality of her personality and music which so fascinates fans: there’s a mini burger in the dressing room, a detail Olivia herself shared with the design team – she likes to eat a burger after each major show.

(And check out the minifigure’s iconic white outfit: it even features a little mic pack on the back!)

A story in every piece

Take Olivia’s Flower Bouquet: tucked into one of the blooms is a butterfly modeled on the Arhopala found in the Philippines, a nod to Olivia’s favorite animal and her Filipino heritage, together with a Red Leea flower, native to the Philippines and built partly from tiny cherries - one of Olivia's recurring symbols. There’s a Californian Aster in there too, honoring her California roots.

You’ll spot another Olivia iconic symbol – stars – worked into several of the flowers, plus a honeybee, a detail Olivia specifically included, in reference to her latest album. And a tiny cupcake in the center of one of the flowers, because she loves to bake banana bread.

Olivia’s Vinyl set gets really personal, too. Her real signature is on the bottom, and Olivia chose it to be rendered in silver because that’s the color of the jewelry she wears. Olivia and the team used mirrored silver for the record label too.

And then there’s the ladybug and honeybee tucked inside the notebook in Olivia’s Secret Storage set. Olivia wanted to include the ladybug because it’s her lucky charm (she told us herself), and the iconic honeybee from her third and latest record. Even the decoration on the record was co-created with Olivia, pulling directly from her own graphics.

Made for Livies

None of this happened without the fans, either. Throughout the design phase, the team worked closely with them – that’s why the collab feels like it was built from within the fandom itself.

Look at the outfit on the minifigure that comes with Olivia’s Concert Moon set: it’s inspired by the one Olivia wore on the GUTS tour during the Moon Stage portion of the show, with Olivia sitting atop a giant revolving moon and flying above the crowd, making every single person feel like she was singing directly to them. It was an unbelievable viral moment. And now here it is, forever immortalized in brick form.

So, there you have it. Five sets. So many hidden details and surprises. A story in every piece, and a giant creative collision between two icons. We. Are. Obsessed. (Did we mention that already?).
