Job Description

Are you a curious Software Engineer who wants to build exciting digital experiences for our consumers and become part of a highly collaborative Product team?

Then come and join our Consumer Engagement Technology team at the LEGO Group!

Core Responsibilities

We are looking for a Software Engineer to join an established Billund-based team that focuses on building customized digital experiences that engage kids on lego.com.

Your main role will be working on the backend, where we've implemented a range of serverless services in an event-driven and CLEAN architecture. Our infrastructure is based on AWS, using services including Lambda, API Gateway, EventBridge, and DynamoDB. We connect to the outside world through a GraphQL setup, so if you have worked with that before that’s a bonus, but not a requirement. Most backend code is written in Typescript, so we hope you are a highly skilled in that area. Our team also works on a frontend stack with Typescript, React, NextJS, CSS Components that is using our GraphQL endpoint to query and mutate data. So in our team we have the chance to work as a fullstack team (with split roles). We don’t expect you to be an expert in all of it, but your main expertise should be backend and you should have an interest to learn about the technologies that are new to you. For our continues delivery pipelines we are using Github and Git is our source control tool of choice, we focus intensely on unit and e2e testing to make sure we can deliver fast reliable solutions. Any knowledge and skills in these areas would also be a phenomenal addition, but not a hard requirement.

As a Software Engineer, you are open-minded and champion cooperation, but are also able to balance this with an ability to make informed decisions independently and tackle tasks based on the value they provide to our users.

You appreciate exposure to learning new technologies, and ways of working, and when required you will do the work to get the job done. We believe the best products are built when different perspectives are brought together, and engineering, design, and product work in tandem rather than in isolation, so your opinion will matter as we go through phases of discovery work, user research sessions, and set the goals for our product.

Play your part in our team succeeding

Working closely with the whole product team, our Software Engineers play a vital role in securing the quality, security and stability of our digital retail experience. We are working from the offices 3 days per week.

Do you have what it takes?

  • You would love to work in a Nodejs/AWS environment with focus on backend development.

  • Experience of working with modern CI/CD and engineering tooling is a bonus – we use Amazon Web Services and GitHub Actions extensively

  • Experience with building maintainable software preferably using TypeScript with a strong bias towards testing to ensure the quality and reliability.

  • You have an eye for quality but are not afraid of experimenting to test out ideas that might fail.

  • Ready to listen and adapt to viewpoints of all colleagues.

Nice to have experience with:

  • Technologies related to event-driven architecture.

  • Experience with building for accessibility, performance and cross-browser support.

  • Interest in user research and supporting design for on-site user interviews.
