Core Responsibilities

  • Leading on all Export Control areas, including sanctions & embargo advisory from a legislative point of view, internal export compliance programme and building processes & controls as needed
  • Lead on identification and evaluation of sanctions across all LEGO Group entities e.g. EU & US (Re) Export Control, in close collaboration with the internal legal team and the sanctions screening team
  • Design & review policies, contractual wording and other relevant compliance documentation regarding Export Control aspects
  • Functional lead on SAP GTS implementations regarding Export Control functionalities
  • Develop and support implementation of Export Control classification processes
  • Design and implement continuous improvement actions to address any risks arising out of internal reviews, disclosures, audit, geopolitical developments etc.
  • Develop training materials and conduct training sessions with internal stakeholders globally e.g. Key Account Managers, General Managers, procurement teams and other partners
  • Building strong relationships with key partners across the organisation, including legal, corporate risk teams, business functions, digital & technology teams etc.

Global Strategic Tax & Customs has overall accountability for taxes across The LEGO Group, including customs and other indirect taxes as well as Export Control. Within this global function there are 6 departments – Business Advisory, Tax Policy & Controversy, Tax Governance, Tax Projects & Performance, Tax Product Management and Tax Planning & Structuring. The position as Senior Export Control Manager is part of the Tax Planning & Structuring team.

Beside the Global Strategic Tax & Customs team, the LEGO Group also has a central Tax Process Design Team and a Business Service Organisation, in which tax compliance & sanctions screening tasks are performed.

The purpose of this role is to be the leading Subject Matter Expert on all matters regarding Export Control, to be the go-to person on current Export Control legislation and to help build and manage all related processes as needed. The person should be capable of leading global and strategic projects, potentially with strong IT and systems focus. The role will require close interaction with various parts of the organisation such as legal teams, business service organisation, business units, corporate risk and internal audit, digital & technology teams and others.

Do you have what it takes?

  • The position requires a college or university degree or equivalent experience – education in law is preferred
  • Solid Export Control background including sanctions (e.g. EU, UK, US (Re-) Export Control, other sanctions as they become relevant), restricted goods and embargoes, in a global operating context
  • SAP GTS knowledge and overall IT affinity
  • Advisory background is relevant, in-house experience is preferred but not a requirement
  • Natural self-starter with the ability to work independently and manage projects
  • Ability to work in a dynamic global team and to interact as well as communicate efficiently and remotely with stakeholders, including senior levels
  • As a member of an international team, there is an expectation of ad hoc travel worldwide
