Job Description

Are you an experienced developer and architect? If so, we offer a fantastic opportunity to join the LEGO Group to help us define and implement our digital strategies, working as one of our top-level technical software engineers.

At the LEGO Group, a principal engineer (PE) is a director level technical leadership role. A PE does not do much hands-on development, but primarily has an indirect impact on how technical work is done by enabling other software engineers to do better work.

*No relocation assistance is offered for this position.*

Core Responsibilities

  • Several years of experience doing technical work, making technology choices, and designing systems. You have seen consequences of bad choices, that made it hard to evolve a system and to run it in production

  • You must enjoy and be good at working with other people, e.g., listening, mentoring, giving feedback, and asking good questions. Especially communication with both technical and non-technical people are important

  • You can take a step back and see the bigger picture, pros and cons, and long-term consequences of technology choices and different designs. You do not jump into problem-solving mode but investigate until you have uncovered what are the real problems we are trying to tackle

  • You can learn the essence of new technological topics without having the time do hands-on work, and you quickly understand crucial challenges, architectures, and designs presented to you – even in areas that you are not intimately familiar with

  • Agile methodologies like Scrum or Kanban. You appreciate the quick feedback loops, continual course correction, and experimental approach that agile enables

Play your part in our team succeeding

You will join as one of two principal engineers in the leadership team in Corporate Products Technology (CPT), collaborating with the VP who is head of CPT. Within CPT, we have 13 software product teams. The teams cover a wide set of business capabilities, e.g. finance, planning and controlling, tax and trade, process digitization, HR, payroll, procurement, facilities and workplace, legal, internal communication, and service management. We also have three supporting teams: digital design, agile coaching, and technical program management.

In CPT, we have a mix of software engineers – some primarily do configuration (low-code/no-code) often using SaaS solutions, while other engineers mainly program (e.g., using ABAP on SAP or TypeScript on AWS). Most product teams have engineers of both types.

Do you have what it takes?

  • DevOps' technologies and practices: E.g., Git, CI/CD pipelines, automated tests, high-frequency releases to prod, releasable master, static code analysis

  • Running systems in production: E.g., log collection, dashboards, troubleshooting, response timing, tracing, observability, the “you built it - you run it” principle

  • Data collection and data analysis: E.g., data warehouse, data lake, query tools, planning and reporting, dashboards, machine learning, data ownership

  • Seasoned experience with SAP S/4HANA, Coupa, Workday, ServiceNow, Kronos, Celonis, SharePoint, Genetec, SAP GTS, Highradius, Honeywell, Blue Prism. Including evaluation of such systems and how to best integrate with them

  • Disaster recovery: E.g., redundancy, self-healing, backup/restore, infrastructure as code, recovery point objective (RPO), recovery time objective (RTO)

  • Modern architecture, cloud native, modularization via microservices, integration design patterns, and domain driven design (DDD)

  • Cloud: E.g., AWS, Azure, SAP BTP, Kubernetes, infrastructure as code

Advanced English both written and verbal would be ideal as we are an internationally gathered team.
