Update to the WeDo 2.0 app

There have been some exciting new updates to the WeDo 2.0 app based on your feedback! It’s now easier than ever to access content without being connected to the internet.
 

What’s different about the app?

  • Content is embedded in the app for all operating systems and platforms, meaning no more online streaming (excluding Chromebooks).
  • All Teacher’s Guides are available online as PDFs. These can be downloaded and saved to your device.
  • The full app is now only 600 MB.
  • Computational Thinking (CT) projects are available for more languages.
  • The full WeDo 2.0 experience (including CT) is now available in Dutch.

FAQs

I’ve used the online streaming iOS version of WeDo 2.0 since it was launched in January 2017. Why has the app doubled in size (from 300MB and online streaming to 600 MB)?
 

All content and curriculum is now embedded in the app. This means that you no longer need to be connected to the internet to access and stream the content.
 

Why can’t I use WeDo 2.0 in online mode?
 

The total size of content and curriculum material has been reduced significantly, making the streaming option less relevant. The change in app size and the fact that each iPad had to be manually set to either online/offline mode is why we've decided to offer all content within the app. This means that all users will be ready to start right after the download. This solution also makes it possible to push the app with admin distribution systems without any further actions needed for it to work offline.
 

Where has my Teacher Guide gone?
 

The Teacher Guide is still accessible from the WeDo 2.0 app. However, you’ll need to be connected to the internet to access the Teacher Guide. If you want to use the Teacher Guide when you don’t have internet access, download and save it on your device.
 

Why are the Teacher Guides online instead of in the app now?
 

Instead of downloading all languages available, you can now choose just the language(s) you need. This helps save space on your device by not downloading languages you won't use.
 

What if there’s no Wi-Fi in class?
 

You only need to be connected to Wi-Fi to get the Teacher Guides PDFs. The Teacher Guides are mainly used by teachers for preparation and can always be downloaded to the device. Once downloaded, you no longer need Wi-Fi to access them.
 

Are all versions of the app smaller now?
 

Yes!
 

Is it possible to stream online content on any operating systems?
 

No. You can only stream the online content when you’re running Chrome OS on Chromebooks.
