What happens when you swap the comfort of the familiar for the excitement of something new? For Flemming, it meant stepping into a role that mixes the best of his past experience with brand new challenges. His story shows how a career with us can be less about following a fixed blueprint and more about building your own unique path.

“I’ve always applied for roles that sounded interesting and had a big ‘I haven’t tried this before’ factor, but where I also felt I could add value.”

That approach led him through nearly a decade with LEGO® Education, where he got to experience finance, sales, marketing and product development with a different spin.

“One thing that makes LEGO® Education stand out to me, is that it basically operates like a stand-alone company with its own full value chain - from early product development to actual school sales - but with the comforts of being part of a big one. This enables you to work across lots of different topics and business areas. For example, in my last role I was able to work across everything, from developing long-term strategies to collecting market insights, speaking to potential new customers, exploring different business models, and everything in between. My days would often combine strategic, tactical and operational work.”

Beyond the variety, it was the impact that kept him inspired.

“One of the most rewarding aspects came from witnessing the impact of our products firsthand. Visiting schools and interacting with students was incredibly motivating. When you see the delight on children’s faces — especially those who may be struggling in traditional learning environments — you know you’ve been part of something meaningful.”

Today, as a Senior Finance Business Partner in Distribution, Planning & Costing Finance, Flemming has taken the next step in his journey - and it’s one that takes him closer to the operational heart of the business.

"It’s a good mix of something new and something familiar. This role allows me to dive into operations — an area I haven’t been that deep into until now, but one that’s a key element of our success.”

As well as exploring a new area, the scope of his new role also offers fresh challenges.

“It’s a global role that has a holistic end-to-end outlook across the business and really allows me to get into our ‘engine room’. Everybody I have met so far has been incredibly open and welcoming — both in, and outside of the finance organisation.”

What stands out most to him, though, is how people’s potential is more important than having to tick every box.

"One thing I’ve liked about the roles I’ve had is that I didn’t necessarily have a lot of specific experience within the domain before moving into them. Instead, my hiring managers looked at mindset, willingness to learn, and attitude towards taking up the challenge to learn something new.”

That open culture has kept him engaged throughout his journey.

“There’s a purpose that resonates with me, opportunities to grow in a known environment, focus on you as a person, and then there’s just a special LEGO culture among your colleagues.”

True to that culture, Flemming knows that his career will always be a work in progress.

“It’s not about reaching a finish line. It’s about seeing what you can create next.”
