Final lap! It’s now or never if you want to win the Gearhead Cup and beat notorious cheat Jonny Speedman! All season long he’s been bending rules and snatching wins in a very suspicious high-tech car. No matter what the race throws up, it steers him to victory in record time. It’s almost as if it’s doing all the driving for him…
However, today is different. Jonny might be first, but it’s the biggest race of the year and every driver is desperate to stop his oily hands from grubbing up the trophy. It’s time for you and your friends to push your cars to the limit and thwart that rogue before he crosses the line!
Your biggest problem? Jonny’s mysteriously fast car! Every turn it zooms forward two spaces and somehow evades every obstacle in its path.
However, it also dodges boosts and shortcuts, so grip the steering wheel, grit your teeth and use those advantages whenever you can. Whoever reaches the finish line first wins!
3… 2… 1… GO! Once you’ve printed the FREE game board, break out your brick box and set the scene by decorating it with minifigure racing fans, a bustling pitstop and anything else you can think of that turns the atmosphere up to 10!
You can use bricks as counters, or you can take it up a gear and invent a character for yourself. Maybe you’re a genius inventor who builds cars from scrap metal, or a grizzly daredevil that craves thrills. Use your bricks to show off their tricks by building vehicles which reflect their personalities!
Next, place Jonny’s playing piece and start him three spaces ahead (the dirty cheat!). You can roll a LEGO® brick as a dice:
But hit the brakes: this is the Gearhead Cup! It didn’t earn its reputation from orderly overtaking and patient pit stops. No, this course is wackier than a dog driving a golf buggy (which, incidentally, was a winner here back in ‘98), and all its wacky features will need to be laid out before the race begins.
Dive back into the brick box and construct the below features, then place them on the matching spaces on the board. You can design them however you want, but here’s some ideas:
Remember, Jonny ignores every boost and barrier, but you’ll have to handle them every time you land on one.
When it comes to shortcuts, Jonny thinks they’re risky business and steers clear, but you can use them if you dare. Every time you travel over a shortcut space, roll equal to or above the number shown to continue your move or skid to a stop and miss a turn!
The Gearhead Cup is famous for chaos, and today is especially wild. Design some LEGO obstacles and place them wherever you want, then think up hair-raising consequences. Whenever a driver races by, they’ll have to stop and follow the rule! Here’s some ideas to inspire infuriating builds:
Why not race by your own rules? If you want to drive five laps or fifty laps, then go for it. You could scatter bricks on the board, collect them as you go, and get a boost (or spin off the track!) whenever you’ve collected three. It’s your game, so don’t hold back!
