- July 19th, 2019Average rating4out of 5 stars4.0Great concept but needs better instructionsFawnacre |I would recommend this to a friend!Purchased for: SonI bought this set for my son for his 12th birthday. We have put together at least 100 Lego sets between my two boys at this point in our lives. We watched videos of this being put together and I read reviews. We decided to not use the kragle and just make sure that all the pieces were put together as snuggly as possible. The building of the set was smooth up until the end. When we went to attach the trees it kept falling apart. We would stop, put everything back together and try again. After doing this 3 times with the same result we decided to give it a day and try again. In the meantime I tried to reach out to the Lego company but the website just kept looping me around and we gave up and went back to the videos again. We tried to attach the two houses together first then the trees. It fell apart again. At this point we just went for it and watched half of the house fall apart as we got the trees attached. Now we are working on piecing the houses back together and it is very frustrating. Overall it is a great concept and amazing set but the execution of piecing it together at the end needs to be reassessed. The instructions just glance over it while there should be a few pages dedicated to this step. Some of the instructions for the upside-down portion were so dark it was hard to tell the difference in pieces so we had to use a flashlight to make sure we were doing it correctly. We love Legos and will of course be buying more sets but I've never been more frustrated when trying to finish a set before. I would highly recommend using the kragle on this set as you go, especially the roof! I have attached some photos of all the pieces that fell off after we attached the trees.25 July 2019Callie, Customer ServiceThanks so much for your review! I'm sorry you experienced some frustration with your set. If you find things aren't as sturdy as they should be, the best thing to do is double check your build. You'll want to make sure you hear a noticeable "click" and use a bit more pressure to attach the trees. If little rebuilding can't set things right side up, you can get in touch with our LEGO® experts at LEGO.com/Service. We'll get your build right side up — no Kragle required.Play Experience1.0Level of Difficulty5.0Value for Money4.0Build Time: 7 daysBuilding Experience: Expert LEGO builderWas this helpful?45The Upside Down
- June 15th, 2019Average rating5out of 5 stars5.0A fun set for a big fan.I would recommend this to a friend!Purchased for: SelfI haven't built a lego set in many years and this was so much fun. I'm a huge fan of the show so I instantly bought this, hoping I'd be able to handle the build. It was a long process but it ultimately was totally doable. The set is very stable and I didn't end up with many missing pieces at all. I believe I only had one block that wasn't included in my pack, but it was easily replaced with other extras from previous parts of the build. All in all, I had a great time putting this together and I love having this on display.Play Experience5.0Level of Difficulty4.0Value for Money5.0Build Time: 7 hrs 30 minsBuilding Experience: Novice LEGO builderWas this helpful?55The Upside Down
- July 24th, 2019Average rating5out of 5 stars5.0A wonderful set to build with a partner!NMarket |I would recommend this to a friend!Purchased for: FriendMy little brother and I are both fans of Stranger Things, and I'm a casual fan of LEGO. So when I found out that LEGO was releasing an official set before my brother's birthday, I knew I had to get him the set. It was an even more wonderful to find out that the set came with TWO different instructions booklet, one for each house! We split up the work in accordance of the booklets, and we bonded so much while building the set. The set is wonderfully creative in its approach of recreating the Upside Down. The set might look a bit flimsy at first, but the way the trees are constructed and where the ball-point anchors are placed, the entire set stands up really well on its own. I've even given it a little more than gentle nudges to see if it can stay standing, and it did! The minifigures are definitely a highlight of the set. Each minifigure is pretty accurate in detail to the characters they represent. Dustin's minifigure head lacks front teeth, reflecting the character's (and his actor's) cleidocranial dysplasia! Lucas's headpiece has camo bandana! Will has a super accurate bowlcut headpiece and I love it! And the Demogorgon minifigure has an amazing headpiece of his petal-face mouth openly roaring! The printing and the stickers for the set are pretty faithful to the source material. There's a sticker that depict's Will's "Will the Wise" drawing, there are missing posters for Will and Barb, most of the windows have newspapers covering it. The attention to detail is great! The Upside Down portion even has the same stickers, but cleverly degraded to reflect the darker dimension's sinister nature. Overall, this set is great to build with a partner. It's a fantastic homage to a fantastic show, and a wonderful, nerdy display piece! Kudos to the designer! P.S. Connect the other ballpoint pieces first BEFORE connecting the trees to the set.Play Experience5.0Level of Difficulty4.0Value for Money5.0Build Time: 2 days 4 hrsBuilding Experience: Novice LEGO builderWas this helpful?55The Upside Down
- July 10th, 2021Average rating5out of 5 stars5.0One of my favorites.I would recommend this to a friend! My wife wanted to know what I wanted for my birthday. I asked for a Lego set and she got me this, which automatically makes it one of my favorites since it's from her. But the build alone was wonderful. I thought it could possibly get a little tedious almost doing the same build twice, but the differences made it all so much fun. The details are great, unique building techniques, the inside is gorgeous but it's really the outside exterior that gets most of my attention. I'm a big modular building fan so when they look good like that from the outside AND the in, oh mama, I'm just so happy with this set. It looks like art. Also, take your time building it. I somehow missed a step or two or put things in the wrong place towards the end but I caught my mistake before trying to stand it up. Do it right and it will be sturdy as can be. I had it atop my desk, which I bump into often, and it never even wobbled. Very impressive architecture! The Barb posters are a hilarious, dark touch. And the Dustin minifigure is the cutest one EVER. I honestly can't think of anything to nitpick about with this build. Don't be a mouthbreather, get it!Play Experience5.0Value for Money5.0Was this helpful?55The Upside Down
