UPDATE: In late 2013, we compiled this list of the greatest Technic crane hits since the beginning of time. We promised to revisit the category in 2020, because how can we announce the greatest hit of the 2010s when we’re only just halfway through this decade?
But this year, with the arrival of the 42042 Crawler Crane (and the 42043 Mercedes-Benz Arocs 3245) we decided we had to update our list a little earlier than 2020…
In 2013, the 42009 Mobile Crane MK II was the biggest model we had ever built, with 2,606 elements. That still lands it a comfortable spot in our Hall of Fame! This year, the Mobile Crane had to hand over that trophy to the 42043 Mercedes-Benz Arocs 3245 (2,793 elements).
And while the new 42042 Crawler Crane can’t boast a record number of elements, it is still slightly taller, longer and wider than the Mobile Crane: 24” (61cm) high, 23” (60cm long) and 7” (20cm) wide.
Watch Markus and Milan showcase the Crawler Crane in the Design Studio.
We invite you to spend a few minutes in the company of our classic favorites below. When you’re done, share your wish list for new Crane features and functions on the Message Boards!
