Support our campaign by sharing a happy play moment

Nothing is more uplifting than seeing a child playing. Happy, engaged, and creative; it’s exactly how childhood should look.

But in the past 12 months, the Syrian humanitarian crisis has provided some of the most distressing pictures of children the world has seen. Pictures that show children deprived of the fundamentals; their safety, family, friends, routine, and playtime. We at the LEGO Group, the LEGO Foundation, and UNICEF have joined forces as “Partners In Play” to help create a brighter life for children affected by the conflict. And we’d like you to join us.

Become a Partner In Play

In 2016, the LEGO Group, the LEGO Foundation, and UNICEF are collaborating to bring LEGO® DUPLO® bricks to vulnerable children in Jordan, enhancing their opportunities for play.

It’s easy to show your support and help celebrate the importance of play. Just share a picture or video of your family’s happy play moment using the hashtag #PartnersInPlay on Twitter, Instagram, or the LEGO DUPLO Facebook page.

Why Jordan?

A neighboring country to Syria, Jordan hosts over 630,000 Syrian refugees, including an estimated 220,000 school-aged children. Syrian refugee families in Jordan are becoming increasingly vulnerable, with approximately 86% living below the poverty line. In such desperate circumstances, children can be plunged into an adult life long before they are ready – either to find work or to marry. Children affected by the conflict are frequently being deprived of their rights to play and education, and with it their opportunities for a better future.

Breaking the cycle

In 2015, UNICEF developed a new approach to protect children in Jordan and provide them with access to education. The Makani (“My Space”) model provides highly cost-effective services that aid children in playing, learning, and shaping better futures to break the cycle of poverty. The services also benefit vulnerable Jordanian children, at least 30,000 of whom are calculated to be outside of the school system.

Getting fully equipped

Through the Makani model, UNICEF has already achieved so much in a short amount of time. Now more materials are needed. The LEGO Foundation will donate LEGO DUPLO bricks that will enhance play opportunities for vulnerable children in Jordan and is also working with UNICEF to provide training for educators and caregivers, enabling staff to realize both a child’s potential and their own. You can show your support and celebrate the importance of play, by sharing a happy play moment.
