Designing an inspiring future

We’re inspiring the builders of tomorrow through the power of play. And we couldn’t do it without our Product Designers. Thanks to people like Jason and Maria, we bring amazing learning through play experiences to children.

G’day from Jason

Jason, one of our product designers, loves his job in the LEGO® Star Wars™ design team. He moved over 16,000km away from his home in Australia to work in our LEGO Campus, in Billund, Denmark to start a new life, career and meet new friends. One of the biggest steps in his life turned out to be one of the best choices he made.

Now he works alongside graphic designers, building instructors, marketers and packaging designers from all across the LEGO Group – and Disney and Lucasfilm. In his team, everybody comes from different walks of life. Some were teachers beforehand, some ex-services and others had no experience other than being huge fans of the LEGO brand and products. The whole team shares the same passion and love for the brick.

Jason believes that it’s important to bring fun into your workplace, not just your personal life. That’s why the LEGO value ‘fun’ resonates so well with him. Having a bit of fun can boost your mood and creativity, as well as helping you to deal with the daily challenges you face. He’s also living this value at home, by building the Duel on Mustafar™ set, and re-creating the entire battle scene between Anakin and Obi-Wan!

Hola from Maria

Being surrounded by bricks and crazy cool models all day is any LEGO fan’s dream, and it’s also a reality for our Design Teams. These teams are the brains behind all the play experiences we create. Maria, one of our designers originally from Spain now living in Denmark, explains that the greatest and most exciting challenge is transforming her biggest ideas into real LEGO models. She explains: “The great thing with toys is the power they have: you might be inspiring a young kid to be a firefighter in the future, or a scientist, an engineer… and that is an amazing and powerful tool.“

Advice from Jason & Maria

If you’re thinking of applying Maria says: “Do it. You won’t regret it. Make sure you have a strong portfolio that shows who you really are, trust the skills you have, and most of all, be yourself during the process and enjoy it! It’s a fun experience."

Jason explains why he thinks working here is incredible: “It’s a fun environment to be in and a very relaxed atmosphere. There is a strong emphasis on work-life balance, but the job itself for me is most rewarding. It’s a very challenging and rewarding job to be able to create products for fans of all ages all over the world."
