The build overall is very simple with one or two instructions per page, I actually skipped 4 or 5 steps ahead and just looked at the images to see where most of the pieces were laid out which made the build time a bit shorter. Overall an enjoyable build and would really suite a younger audience for play. For display purposes you can see the comparison in width vs other ships (quite bulky), which is good if you have the space. Opened up it is far to long to realistically be put in a Lego city; however, the interior has quite good features with a lounge, toilet, computer terminal, tool areas and good storage for the added wave runner vehicles. I also liked the varied selection of mini-figs and am sure I can find a place for them throughout my city. The only really negative I had was that the back connection is clipped on by two narrow bars and a simple clip piece. I feel if Lego had have made it a ball and socket joint or at least a couple of bar holder clips it would have been much more solid. I only opened it three times before displaying it and the connection came loose twice.Play Experience3.0Value for Money4.0Was this helpful?

I would recommend this to a friend!
I was first attracted to this set by its bright colors and size, and my recent interest in ship/boat sets! But what convinced me to buy it was the reference in the description to The Journey to the West. As I read more about the book, namely the translation by Anthony Yu, I decided to buy the set and all four volumes of Yu’s translation. Everything arrived this week and I’m delighted with the purchases. I find myself being drawn more and more to the LEGO sets that have some basis in history and travel, such as the architecture sets, Apollo 11, the Pirate sets, and now this Monkie Kid set with its relation to the Chinese culture. I’m excited to see what LEGO has planned for future history/travel related sets!Value for Money5.0Was this helpful?

Purchased for: Son
After 50 years of Lego building I must admit I think this is one of the best sets Lego have ever produced. The new Monkey Kid theme is great and has really grabbed the imagination of my 10 year old son. The set itself is one of the most imaginative and best designed sets I have ever done. The hq is huge and the boat theme works really well. This sets new standards and is very good value. I hope Monkey King is a huge success for LegoPlay Experience5.0Value for Money5.0Was this helpful?

I bought this set for my 5-year old and me to build together and found the experience very satisfying. I read the building instructions before purchasing and found many useful technic bricks that would be added to our inventory, which can be used to combine the system and technic bricks together to build something big and great. The set also has a little bit of everything: a robot, vehicles, mini-figures, a boat, module style buildings, small furniture, to enable more storytelling and play. It's good on its own and good for the bricks. The kid played the set for weeks before it's broken down. Now my son built a mini aircraft carrier from it using the building technique learned from the experience. It's the best set I have purchased so far.Play Experience5.0Value for Money5.0Was this helpful?
