- March 16th, 2021Average rating5out of 5 stars5.0A 4 star model with a 5 star option!I would recommend this to a friend!Purchased for: SelfAs built, this is a challenging model with incredible structural strength. As built this is a 4x4 truck that can handle minor off-roading. As built, this is a fun truck! We had wet snow falling the day after I built it and I took it outside. In 1/4" (7mm) or less of heavy wet snow the truck did fine, but once you got in to deeper snow it would stall once the snow built up under the differential. Not very impressive. This is why this is a 4 star model. How to get to 5 star? Below are three changes you need to make, extremely easy if you built it this way outright, if you need to modify it look up on YouTube the 5-minute fix for the 42099 model. This little set of changes does two things, it cuts the speed in half, but it allows you to run in 1.5" (38mm) heavy wet snow and keep going. I drove around for over 20 minutes until I finally pushed my luck and high-centered. 5 Star truck! You just need to do the following three things! Halve you speed, double your power. Thanks to Youtuber: RacingBrick Step 78 - use the tan gear from step 82 not the black one Step 82 - use the black gear from step 78 not the tan one you already used Step 159- left side of the picture, there is a black and tan gear, carefully swap them. Have Fun! Remember, LEGO allows you to explore! Never forget that!Play ExperienceAverage rating5out of 5 stars5.0Level of DifficultyAverage rating5out of 5 stars5.0Value for MoneyAverage rating5out of 5 stars5.0Build Time: 3 hrsBuilding Experience: Expert LEGO builderWas this helpful?554X4 X-treme Off-Roader
- December 18th, 2019Average rating5out of 5 stars5.0More than expected. Good productEvilOz |I would recommend this to a friend!Purchased for: SelfI Was pleased to learn again how to build a lego car step by step , after a long brake of 25 years. since my first car in the '90 . The set has everything it needs, long build time , lots of new things to learn about direction , suspensions , etc. The set took me 8 hours to fully build it in one go , but it was worth it . The car can be controlled very easy from the phone app . Is like my new pet . It is easy and challenging in the same time with lots of building rewards, and in the end u got a remote car . Was more than what i expected. Great product !Play ExperienceAverage rating4out of 5 stars4.0Level of DifficultyAverage rating4out of 5 stars4.0Value for MoneyAverage rating4out of 5 stars4.0Build Time: 8 hrsBuilding Experience: Intermediate LEGO builderWas this helpful?554X4 X-treme Off-Roader
- July 7th, 2020Average rating3out of 5 stars3.0Not so X-treme - Needs ImprovementPurchased for: SelfTalking value: If you were to piece this set out the motors and hub alone cost $210 so just on that you're getting about $90 worth of Lego for an additional $30. I have a hard time seeing anyone wanting to buy this after it retires at twice the price so I'm thinking the long term resale value isn't going to be as much on this one. Talking Performance: The vehicle itself isn't very fast and the gearing doesn't allow you to climb over much until you swap some gears around which makes it even slower. When climbing over an obstacle if one of the wheels comes off the ground you lose traction and the wheel just spins while the other one fails to drive. I locked the rear axle which resolved this issue but now the torque pulls the suspension apart.Play ExperienceAverage rating2out of 5 stars2.0Level of DifficultyAverage rating3out of 5 stars3.0Value for MoneyAverage rating3out of 5 stars3.0Build Time: 3 hrsBuilding Experience: Advanced LEGO builderWas this helpful?354X4 X-treme Off-Roader
- October 16th, 2019Average rating4out of 5 stars4.04x4 x-treme off Roader (42099)Helty |I like this Lego a lot. Was a gift of my daughter(she surpriced me).Problem is that this Lego is overpriced by far. The price by piece is ($0.26 = 26 cents). That's a lot, no other Lego have this price. In the case of the LiebHerr Road 9800(42100) the price per piece is less than 12 cents. Why this Lego have that price? That's the reason why I does not recommend this Lego. I have more than 170 Lego, most off them Technic, and never, never pay for any of them an irrational price like that.Play ExperienceAverage rating4out of 5 stars4.0Level of DifficultyAverage rating3out of 5 stars3.0Value for MoneyAverage rating2out of 5 stars2.0Build Time: 7 hrs 10 minsBuilding Experience: Intermediate LEGO builderWas this helpful?454X4 X-treme Off-Roader
