BUILDING IMAGINATION: KIDS LOVE IT WHEN YOU BRING THINGS FROM OUTSIDE INTO THE HOUSE.
Looking to spark your child’s imagination? Take a walk outside.
When we take a moment to look and listen, we see that nature is full of inspiration. This is especially true for children. For them the world isn’t just wonderful -- it’s also wonderfully new.
Open the door on nature for your children, and watch inspiration rush in. Grab a small bucket or a bag and take your child for a walk outside. Talk about what you both see, feel, hear and touch. Is it warm outside? Are the leaves changing? What color are they? Is there snow on the ground? What does it feel like? Stop and look and take it all in.
Now, take some of what you’re looking at – stones, leaves, flowers, even snow – and put it in your bucket to bring back into the house. Use it to inspire some imaginative brick building.
Imagine how you could build a big yellow leaf using LEGO bricks. Or dream an even bigger picture – build a forest filled with animals.
The most important thing is that your child learns to take natural objects from outside and use imagination and creativity to bring them to life – interpreting them in fun and funny ways – building a world, brick by brick.
