How do planes fly?

At some point, you blowing raspberries to imitate the sound of an airplane engine won’t satisfy your child’s curiosity about this mystery. A quick and simple answer: A plane’s engines or propellers create thrust to move the plane forward. The wings are angled so they push air down as the plane moves forward—and thus lifts the plane up. (You’re welcome.)

How do you build your own plane or helicopter?

Now that you can explain to your child what makes a plane fly (see above), they may be inspired to use their newfound aircraft engineering expertise to rebuild the one they already have. Or even design their own with whatever bricks, paper, sticks or other materials. See what other aircraft fans have created!

For aircraft toy fans of all ages

Welcome to the VIP brick lounge. Whether your child dreams of becoming a helicopter or airplane pilot, wants to learn more about how aircrafts work, or just love toy vehicles and machines, you can find tickets to the perfect gift and aviation adventure here. Aircraft-enthusiastic kids ages 1½ - 100½ can build and pilot passenger planes, cargo planes, rescue helicopters, and even perform loop-de-loops with classic propeller airplanes. Be inspired by a decade of airplane history, design your own, play or display – your imaginary boarding pass is valid for any airborne journey you can think of.
