Job Description

Every LEGO® brick that clicks into place starts with software that never stops. Behind our factories is a digital shopfloor where machines, data, and people come together - and we're reimagining how it all works.

We're looking for a Competency Lead to grow a team of talented engineers building the systems that keep LEGO® elements moving from decoration to assembly to the boxes that end up in children's hands around the world. This is a role for someone who leads with curiosity, thinks strategically, and knows that great engineering teams are built - not found.

Please note that we don’t offer relocation support for this position.

Core Responsibilities

  • Lead competency group of Software Engineers
  • Work with people skillset and opportunities for growth, improvement, and training
  • Work closely with product teams to ensure good collaboration and ways of working
  • Promote good engineering practices in product teams
  • Drive technical excellence and DevSecOps culture and mindset
  • Support Agile Methodologies and Continuous Improvement
  • Attract diversity and talent

Play your part in our team succeeding

The Manufacturing Technology department provides the technology that powers how LEGO® elements are made - from decoration and assembly to packing and warehousing. Our Manufacturing area is on a journey: transforming into a flexible, digital shopfloor where operators make data-driven decisions, machines are seamlessly connected, and software is resilient enough to run 24/7.

As Competency Lead, you'll lead a team of 6–12 engineers based in Copenhagen working closely with product teams on .NET and container-based solutions that keep our production running. You won't spend your days coding - but you'll stay close enough to the work to coach, unblock, and step in when the engine needs you.

Just as importantly, you'll help shape how the team works. You'll be the one removing impediments, resolving conflicts, and nurturing a culture that's proactive, change-ready, and genuinely curious about what's next - whether that's AI-assisted development, new ways of collaborating, or rethinking how we solve old problems.

Do you have what it takes?

We think you'll thrive here if you bring:

  • An engineering background you're proud of - several years of hands-on software development, with a deep understanding of modern practices
  • A track record of taking initiative - you've seen something that needed doing and made it happen, without waiting to be asked
  • A strategic lens on team growth - you think about motivation, skills, team performance, and culture as much as you think about code
  • Curiosity about AI - you don't need to be an expert, but you're genuinely interested in how tools like GitHub Copilot (and Claude behind it) can change the way engineers work
  • Experience in cloud-native development - with architecture patterns and services that scale
  • Comfort in agile environments - and the ability to guide teams without a playbook
  • A team-first mindset - you embrace diversity, build trust, and lead with humility

Nice to have:

  • Interest in Mechanical Engineering or Manufacturing solutions
  • Familiarity with Industry 4.0 technologies, PLCs, or the OT space
  • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, or similar container technologies
  • An appreciation for the unique challenge of software that cannot go down

Applications are reviewed on an ongoing basis. However, please note we do amend or withdraw our jobs and reserve the right to do so at any time, including prior to any advertised closing date. So, if you're interested in this role we encourage you to apply as soon as possible.
