Aurum, "The Golden Lord"
Character Background:
With me, there are a lot parallel stories as far as my Bionicles go. Some constants, though:
Aurum, "the Golden Lord," is ruler of the Cult of Skull Spiders (a group of the protector's people who want the skull spiders to control them, seeing it as a sort of god controlling them to do his will). Standing aside his brother, Argentum, Aurum is nearly unstoppable in combat. Armed with 4 stud blasters (2 elemental blasters and 2 gold ones), Aurum is the master of stopping people before the reach him. In addition, his excessive body armor keeps him unharmed after even some of the most brutal attacks - and nearly everything ranged, making it nearly impossible to stop him from afar. Because of these two attributes, Aurum is somewhat overconfident and has no melee weapon. Not that he needs one.
Th Building/Inspiration Story:
So awhile back (early 2015), I was rather disappointed at how there was no being that actually wore the Mask of Skull Spiders. I figured some corrupt Okotan should have it, and figured I might as well build the rest of him as a color to suit it - completely gold. In addition, I liked features from other Bionicles, such as Kopaka's shoulder armor, Lewa/Pohatu's knee armor/extensions, and the armor plates that came with them all. So I figured, I might as wel make an over-armored guy using basically everything I could. I also liked the whole stud gun thing, and figured I'd fit him with a lot - he ended up with four. I figure it kind of fit him - nobody could take him out frm a distance, but he could kill/injure them. I also got a few ideas from random Bionicle forums, such as the friction extenders on his legs.
The Physical Side of Things - A Sort of Model Review:
Well, first off, Aurum was fairly expensive. I ordered as many parts for him as I could online in the "bricks and pieces" section of this website (lego.com). Since there was so much gold, he costed a good $15-$25. A bit expensive for a short guy, but his bulk may make up for it. I guess that depends.
As far as armor coverage goes, Aurum's front is a titanic beast. His upper legs are slightly unarmored, and his lower arms are, but other than that his front area is mostly over-protected. His sides are also very well protected, with all of the armor and plating added on. Unfortunately, his back isvery bare and looks a little bit awkward.
Aurum stands just under 7 inches (around 17 cm) tall from foot to gun, though his head ends around an inch below that. He's weighted fairly well, so his back isn't much heavier than his front - balancing isn't too much of an issue.
