Groot, and Baby Groot, from LEGO® Marvel

Groot made his comic-book debut in Tales to Astonish in 1960. A sentient, mobile, tree-like alien from Planet X, Groot first came to earth as an invader intent on using humans for experimentation. More recently, however, he has become a trusted friend of Earth’s superheroes.

Groot has the ability to grow almost anything he needs from his own body, from flowers to weapons. He speaks, but only one phrase, ‘I am Groot’, which he uses to express a wide variety of meanings.

Groot, the walking, talking, extraterrestial tree!

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Groot first appeared in 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy. In this movie, Groot sacrifices his own life to save his comrades. However, a baby-Groot grows from the remnants of Groot's body – an identical but smaller version of himself.

Groot is distinctive-looking with a charming personality and, as Baby Groot especially, undeniably cute. As such, he features heavily in Marvel-related action toys and minifigures, including a range of LEGO® playsets.
